BOWLING GREEN, O. -- America's love affair with ketchup will be examined in a lighthearted 30-minute documentary being produced
by WBGU-PBS--and the station owned by Bowling Green State University needs help.
"We're looking for any kind of archival materials individuals might have of tomato fields, tomato harvesting (and) of the
(Bowling Green) Heinz Plant," says producer Tom Zapiecki. "I'm hopeful someone with a trunk full of footage and photographs
will step forward."
In addition to tracing the history of ketchup, the program will reveal how the spicy Chinese fish sauce came to be one of
this nation's favorite condiments and show the impact of the tomato industry on northwest Ohio.
Years ago many BGSU students worked in the local ketchup plant to help pay college expenses. Alumni and others with information
and photographs they're willing to share should contact Zapiecki at 419-372-7007 or email zapiecki@wbgu.bgsu.edu.
