Retired U.S. diplomat to discuss U.S.-Russian relations BOWLING GREEN, O. -- Retired career diplomat and BGSU Distinguished Alumnus Kempton B. Jenkins will discuss "Prospects for
U.S.-Russian Relations Post 9/11" on March 26 at Bowling Green State University.
President of the Ukraine-U.S. Business Council in Washington, D.C., Jenkins will speak at 3 p.m. in 314 Bowen-Thompson Student
Union. Sponsored by the Department of History, the presentation is free and open to the public.
A 1948 graduate of BGSU, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history, Jenkins holds master's degrees from George Washington
University and from Harvard University. In 1972 he was presented BGSU's Distinguished Alumnus Award, the highest honor bestowed
by the University's Alumni Association. In 1984 he received an honorary doctor of public service degree from the University
in recognition of his accomplishments as a representative of U.S. interests around the globe.
Jenkins served 31 years in the U.S. Department of State, where he coordinated the work of one of the earliest U.S. trade delegations
to China and served as executive director of the U.S.-Soviet Trade Commission. After retiring from the State Department, he
was president of the U.S.-U.S.S.R. Trade and Economic Council, and then served as corporate vice president for international
and government affairs for ARMCO Steel Inc.
Jenkins has testified before numerous congressional committees and published a number of articles on international affairs
in The New York Times and the Harvard Business Review.
