NSF research program seeking students
BOWLING GREEN, O. -- Undergraduate students from area colleges are invited to take advantage of an opportunity to conduct research this summer at Bowling Green State University. The BGSU Department of Chemistry will host approximately 12 students during the Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates program sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

The goal of the program is to provide research opportunities for students from smaller colleges, which may not be able to offer such experiences, and who are the first in their families to attend college.

Program participants will conduct original research, work with noted BGSU science faculty, and present their work to faculty and fellow students at the end of the 10-week session, which starts May 19 and ends July 25. Students chosen to participate receive free tuition, an efficiency apartment at no charge, and a $3,000 stipend.

Students can study photochemical sciences, biomolecular sciences, molecular biology, bioinformatics and physics, using a variety of techniques. They will conduct their own original research project, participate in research seminars and gain experience in computer techniques for research.

To apply online, go to: http://www.bgsu.edu/departments/chem/reuform.htm. A printable version of the application is also available at the site.

A review of applications began March 1 and will continue until the program is filled. For more information, contact Nora Cassidy, graduate program coordinator in the Department of Chemistry, at 419-372-6008 or by e-mail at ncassid@bgnet.bgsu.edu.
