Distinguished Research Professor honored in Moscow for educational efforts

BOWLING GREEN, O.--Dr. Douglas Neckers, a Distinguished Research Professor of chemistry and founder and executive director of the Center for Photochemical Sciences at Bowling Green State University, is honored in Moscow for his work in chemical education.

He was presented an honorary professorship in the UNESCO Associated Center of Chemical Science and Education at the Mendeleyev University of Chemical Technology of Russia.

The center is part of an international network associated with UNESCO, which seeks to improve public appreciation of science and involve educators in sustainable development worldwide.

Neckers was recognized for his contributions to the development of the U.S.-Russian cooperation in university-level chemical education. He was honored at an international conference on Chemical Education and Sustainable Development.

Some 500 educators from around the world attended the conference where Neckers also spoke. (Posted 10/9/2000)
