BGSU’S MID-AMERICAN REVIEW AVAILABLE COAST-TO-COAST

BOWLING GREEN, O.--Mid-American Review, the literary magazine of the English department of Bowling Green State University, is looking forward to even wider distribution in its 21st year.

The magazine’s latest issue, which has just been received from the printer, will soon be in Borders Books and Music outlets from coast to coast.

The magazine has been available in select bookstores throughout the country for some time, but the Borders distribution marks the first time that so many issues of the magazine have been so widely available. Now, customers will be able to enter many of the more than 300 Borders stores throughout the United States and purchase a copy of MAR.

This wider distribution is being made possible through MAR’s distributor, the Bernard H. DeBoer Co. of Nutley, N.J.

"We were very pleased when our distributor called to tell us about Borders’ interest in carrying MAR," said editor-in-chief Michael Czyzniejewski. "It’s great to know that people all over the country will be able to find a BGSU publication right at their local store."

Literary magazines have small press runs and relatively small distributions; however, they often print some of the most important new writing to be found. Past MAR contributors include National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize winners, and work from the magazine has been reprinted in numerous prize anthologies, such as "The Best American Short Stories," "The Best American Poetry," "Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards" and "Pushcart: Best of the Small Presses."

"It always seemed like a shame to publish such high quality work and know that not very many people were going to see it. That’s how it is with literary journals," said Czyzniejewski. "The Borders agreement ensures that a great magazine is going to get into the hands of even more readers."

Locally, the magazine is available at the BGSU Bookstore, and will soon be in Grounds for Thought. In Toledo, readers may find MAR at Thackeray’s Books and Barnes & Noble. Persons may also purchase the magazine at the Creative Writing Program office in 226 East Hall.

The magazine is produced by students and faculty of the English department and Creative Writing Program at BGSU. (Posted 11/27/00)
