Plan to attend forum on scholarship of engagement

President Sidney Ribeau invites the campus community to a forum on the scholarship of engagement from 2:30-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, in 207 Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

Leading the discussion will be Hiram Fitzgerald, assistant provost for university outreach and engagement at Michigan State University. A national leader on issues related to the implementation of the scholarship of engagement, Fitzgerald is working with others nationwide involved in the academic engagement effort.
He is chair of the Big Ten’s joint Committee on Engagement and is on the Public Service Task Force on engagement of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges.

At the Dec. 1 forum, Fitzgerald will give a presentation on the topic of scholarly engagement and issues related to Bowling Green’s plan for its implementation, followed by a panel discussion with several members of BGSU’s Task Force on the Scholarship of Engagement. There will be time for the audience to ask questions of the guest speaker and the panel. Also, Deanne Snavely, chair of the task force, will provide an update on the work of the group.

Participating in the discussion will be Radhika Gajjala, Faculty Senate chair; John Laird, chair of the physics department; and Wendy Manning, sociology.
