The University has hired a new director for its Student Health Services. Dr. Glenn Egelman will begin work at BGSU July 6, Bettina Shuford, assistant vice president for student affairs, has announced.

He replaces Dr. Josh Kaplan, who died in December.

Since 2001, Dr. Egelman has been the director of health services for Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., as well as an associate staff physician at Saratoga Hospital.

Board certified in internal medicine since 1995, he received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1991.

Dr. Egelman brings a wealth of experience in college student health care, Shuford said. Before joining Skidmore College, he was the college physician from 1998-2001 at the State University of New York at Stony Brook Student Health Service, where he was also an assistant professor of clinical medicine. He was a staff physician at the University Health Service of the University of Rochester from 1994-98, also serving as a clinical senior instructor and clinical assistant professor of medicine there.

Dr. Egelman has been president of the New York State College Health Association since 2003 and has served on the association’s board of directors since 1998. His many professional memberships include the American College of Physician Executives and the American College Health Association, as well as the Society of General Internal Medicine and Physicians for a National Health Program.

From 1999-2002 he served on the editorial review board for a health and wellness magazine published by Rodale Press in partnership with the American College Health Association.

Last year, Dr. Egelman was named by The Saratogian newspaper to the “20 under 40” list of “movers and shakers” in the Saratoga region for his accomplishments at Skidmore College.
