BGSU announces plans to buy
‘University House'
The Bowling Green State University Foundation,
Inc., plans to purchase a home and property on
South Wintergarden Road in Bowling Green to become
the new “University House.”
The BGSU Board of Trustees voted May 7 to sell
the residence designated for the University president
at 625 Hillcrest Drive. Estimates for renovating
or rebuilding the 44-year-old home were significantly
higher than the $750,000 authorized in February
2003 by the foundation’s board of directors.
This February, the board authorized exploration
of the feasibility of purchasing other property.
It now intends to buy 19.1 acres at 700 S. Wintergarden
Road. The property is divided into two parcels—a
home site on 5.74 acres, to be purchased for $750,000,
and a 13.36-acre parcel, to be purchased for $350,000.
The South Wintergarden property meets the needs
that the foundation board sought to address when
it initiated the renovation project for the Hillcrest
house. Unlike the house at 625 Hillcrest, in which
public and private spaces aren’t separate,
the Wintergarden home includes areas that are
suited for public entertaining and private living.
In addition, its design is conducive to hosting
formal dinner parties as well as larger gatherings.
It can accommodate 200-250 guests.
