BGSU grants tenure and/or promotion, emeritus status

The BGSU Board of Trustees granted tenure, promotion or both to 49 faculty members at its May 7 meeting.

Eight faculty members were promoted to full professor, including Scott Highhouse, psychology; Wendy Manning, sociology; Shawn Morin, art; Michael Staub, English; Nancy Merritt, marketing; Coleen Parmer, University Libraries (collections and technical services); Bruce Moss, music education, and Larry Hatch, visual communication and technology education.

Promoted to associate professor and receiving tenure were 38 others. Among them were 18 faculty members from the College of Arts & Sciences, including Joe Austin and Jeffrey Brown, both popular culture; Susan Brown, sociology; Felix Castellano, chemistry; John Chen, Corneliu Hoffman and Tong Sun, all mathematics and statistics; Yiwei Chen, Mary Hare and Dara Musher-Eizenman, all psychology; Liette Gidlow, history; Fenfang Hwu, Philip Peek and Nathan Richardson, all romance languages; Andrew Layden, physics and astronomy; Eithne Luibheid, ethnic studies; Bonnie Mitchell, art; Daniel Wiegmann, biological sciences.

Receiving the same promotion and tenure from other colleges were Haithe Anderson and Alexander Sidorkin, both educational foundations and inquiry; Cynthia Bertelsen, teaching and learning; Susan Huss, intervention services; Patrick Pauken, educational administration and leadership studies; Raymond Schneider and Nancy Spencer, both human movement, sport and leisure studies; Christine Genovese, natural and social sciences, BGSU Firelands; Kay Strong, applied sciences, BGSU Firelands; Jeffrey Searl, communication disorders; Marian Williams, criminal justice; Colleen Boff, University Libraries (library teaching and learning); Elaine Colprit, music education; Mikel Kuehn, musicology/composition/theory; Kevin Schempf and Christopher Scholl, both music performance studies; David Border and Royce Ann Martin, both technology systems, and Stan Guidera and Kathryn Hoff, both visual communication and technology education.

Another VCTE faculty member, Donna Trautman, was promoted to associate professor, while two other faculty members received tenure—Louisa Ha, telecommunications, and Andreas Nicolaou, accounting and management information systems.

Also at the meeting, the board approved emeritus status for 13 faculty members who have retired or will do so by the end of the fiscal year. The list includes Distinguished Teaching Professors Paul Haas, economics; Stuart Keeley, psychology, and Janet Parks, human movement, sport and leisure studies. Other honorees are Doris Beck, biological sciences; Marianne Bedee and Ronald Olsen, both natural and social sciences; Richard Douglas, economics; Ernest Ezell, visual communication and technology education; John Gresser, mathematics and statistics; Thomas Klein, English; Leland Miller, computer science, and Mohan Shrestha and Joseph Spinelli, both geography.
