Board grants faculty tenure and promotion
The University celebrated one of the happiest rites of academia
at the April 1 Board of Trustees meeting, when 28 faculty members
were granted tenure, promotion or both.
Its always a great occasion when we do this,
said Provost John Folkins, but today is even more
so because of the outstanding talent and accomplishments of
these faculty members.
Board President Leon Bibb told the faculty advancing that their
passion is evident in their work.
L. Fleming Fallon, public health, received tenure and
promotion to professor.
Sixteen faculty received tenure and promotion to associate professor.
They are Catherine Cardwell, University Libraries; Dena
Eber, art; Radhika Gajjala, interpersonal communication;
Michael Geusz and Moira van Staaden, both biological
sciences; Charles Kanwischer, art; Piya Pal-Lapinski,
English; Arthur Samel, geography; Patricia Sharp,
psychology; Jennifer Van Hook, sociology; Judy Alston,
Margaret Booth, and Patricia Kubow, all leadership
and policy studies; Trinka Messenheimer, education and
intervention services; William King, criminal justice,
and William Mathis, music performance studies.
Those promoted to full professor were Lynda Dixon, interpersonal
communication; Narasaiah Gavini and Paul Moore,
both biological sciences; Monica Longmore, sociology;
Barbara Moses and Sergey Shpectorov, both mathematics
and statistics; Peter VanderHart, economics, and Sherlon
Brown and Gregory Garske, both education and intervention
services.
Jeffrey Wagner, natural and social sciences, was promoted
to associate professor and Dwayne Gremler, marketing,
received tenure.
