Tornado warning test slated
for March 16
A test of the tornado warning sirens for the BGSU main
campus, along with other Wood County sirens, will occur
at 9:50 a.m. March 16. This is only a test intended
to verify that the tornado warning systems are working
properly.
In addition to outdoor tornado sirens on and near the
campus, some buildings have internal tornado warning
systems that will also be activated at this time. The
buildings included are the Administration Building,
Conklin North, the Eppler Complex, Founders, Perry Field
House, Harshman, Kohl, Offenhauer Towers, Olscamp Hall
and the Psychology Building.
Be sure to listen for the sirens during this test period.
If you do not hear them, please email dparrat@bgnet.bgsu.edu
the building name and room number where you were
during the test.
This is an opportunity to find tornado shelter locations
that are listed on posters in each building. You are
encouraged to follow the example of some departments
that use this annual test to conduct a tornado drill
and seek a shelter. Drills will highlight communication
needs or other challenges that need to be addressed
to help building occupants respond to an actual tornado
warning.
If you have questions regarding this test, contact Environmental
Health and Safety at 2-2171. For more information about
tornadoes and tornado safety at BGSU, see
www.bgsu.edu/offices/envhs/tornado/index.htm.

Workshop to address need for
accelerated radical innovation
In order to remain competitive in the global economy,
the United States must speed up its development and
implementation of breakthrough technologies, according
to several national watchdog groups. In response, the
BGSU Center for Regional Development, in collaboration
with the University of Toledo, the Regional Growth Partnership
of Northwest Ohio and the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority,
is sponsoring a workshop on accelerated radical innovation,
planned for Thursday-Saturday (March 10-12) in Nitschke
Hall and Nitschke Auditorium at UT.
The goal is to produce methodologies that will improve
the often decades-long, arduous process of radical innovation
and reduce risk, time and cost. The workshop’s
objective is to identify and document sound theory and
tools to accelerate the development of industrial technology
and economic clusters for global competitiveness.
Participants will brainstorm in discussion sessions
on the key challenge areas of information, materials,
manufacturing, transportation, agriculture and energy.
In plenary dinner sessions on Thursday and Friday, lectures
will be given on “Global Innovations Challenges
in the 21st Century” and “Information-Enhanced
Accelerated Radical Innovation in the 21st Century—An
IBM Example.”

BG@100 action and information
items explained online
The implementation of PeopleSoft has presented the BG@100
project team with many decisions, which have resulted
in action items and information items representing the
choices made. The BG@100 Web site provides links to
approved action and information items as a means of
sharing information about these choices.
An action item represents a request from the project
team to the Executive Steering Committee. It may be
a request to customize the PeopleSoft software or for
assistance or guidance from the steering committee.
The documents available on the Web site outline these
requests and the decision provided to the project team
by the committee.
Information items are descriptions of choices that are
made with regard to the implementation of the PeopleSoft
software. They contain background information about
the issue and then information regarding the solution.
They are posted on the Web page upon approval from the
steering committee.
The campus community is encouraged to review these items
at: www.bgsu.edu/BGat100.
Any questions may be directed to BGat100@bgsu.edu.
