Physical inactivity first topic in President’s Lecture Series

Steven Blair

Steven Blair, president and CEO of the Cooper Institute in Dallas, will discuss “Physical Inactivity: The Major Public Health Problem of the 21st Century” as the first speaker in this year’s President’s Lecture Series.

Blair’s presentation begins at 4 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 12) in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater.

An international advocate for the promotion of physical health, Blair has focused his research on the associations between lifestyle and health, with an emphasis on exercise, physical fitness, body composition and chronic disease. He will emphasize the shift in thinking needed to alter trends in an increasing obese population.

“Advocates for Change in the 21st Century: Issues of Body, Mind and Spirit” is the theme of the three-part 2005 series.
