BGSU Research Conference celebrates achievement, offers guidance
The University celebrated the accomplishments of its researchers, scholars and those in creative endeavors at the fifth annual
BGSU Research Conference Nov. 2 and 3.
“Over the past five years, since the first research conference took place, BGSU has received over $85 million to support sponsored
programs and research,” Dr. Heinz Bulmahn, dean of the Graduate College and vice provost for research, told those at the Nov.
2 luncheon. “That is an average of $17 million each year.
“Also over the past five years, federal appropriations for targeted research at BGSU have more than tripled, totaling $3.5
million in the past fiscal year alone. Currently, these funds support photochemical sciences, environmental research and alternative
energy.”
In addition, “our research centers have continued to enjoy growth and success,” he said.
Highlighting the annual conference was the presentation of two of the University’s premier research awards: the Olscamp Research
Award, given to Dr. Neocles Leontis, chemistry, and the Outstanding Young Scholar Award, presented to Dr. Susan Brown, sociology.
