BGSU is among a select number of universities with “programs to look for” in the 2008 edition of “America's Best Colleges”
by U.S.News & World Report.
The rankings will be published in the magazine's Aug. 27 issue, on newsstands today (Aug. 20).
The University's supply chain management program moved up in the national ranking, tying for 16th place. Supply chain management,
offered by the College of Business Administration, is primarily concerned with the planning, acquisition, conversion, flow
and distribution of goods from raw materials to finished products. Graduates of the program are in demand nationwide.
It is the sixth straight year the magazine has published a list of schools with outstanding examples of academic programs
commonly linked to student success. BGSU has been listed each of the last five years. This year, the University is cited for
its first-year experience programs and learning communities.
First-year experience programs include orientation for new students and other academic programs that bring small groups of
students together with faculty or staff on a regular basis. At BGSU that includes UNIV 100 success courses, Springboard, BG
Experience® and the common reading experience, as well as special publications and services for freshmen—including a librarian
dedicated to helping students learn how to use the library, conduct research and use other resource materials.
Learning communities feature small-group settings where students with a common interest live and study together. BGSU learning
communities include the Arts Village, Honors Community, Health Sciences, La Maison Française, Chapman Community at Kohl and
the Global Village, among others.
The magazine compiled the lists of outstanding programs by working with the Association of American Colleges and Universities
to identify the types of programs that enhance student success. The editors then sought nominations from colleges and universities
to identify which campuses offer “stellar examples” of such programs.
