Singing, dancing and humorous commercials about the indispensable products of the day are all part of the Huron Playhouse production of “The 1940’s Radio Hour,” by Walton Jones. Curtain time is 8 p.m. nightly Tuesday-Saturday (July 14-18) at the McCormick Middle School at 325 Ohio St. in Huron.

The date is Dec. 21, 1942, and “The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade” is on the air, live from the Hotel Astor.

A Broadway hit, “The 1940’s Radio Hour” lovingly captures the spirit and characters of that bygone era when the world was at war, television was something from science fiction, and pop music meant “The Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy,” both of which are among the memorable songs in the show.

Next week’s production is Thornton Wilder’s classic “Our Town,” produced in recognition of Huron’s bicentennial. The playhouse production will feature an adult choir and a children’s choir of area residents. “Our Town” will be staged July 21-25.

Ticket prices for all Huron Playhouse productions are $13 for students and senior citizens, $15 for other adults and $10 for children under 12.
