Bernice Sandler to share expertise on gender equity in STEM
Women attempting to pursue careers in science, engineering and math have historically experienced a “chilly climate” that discouraged them from persevering, in addition to real employment barriers.
BGSU will get some expert guidance in fostering a better environment for recruiting, retaining and advancing women and underrepresented minority faculty in those disciplines from Dr. Bernice Sandler, known as the “godmother of Title IX.” She is spending a day on campus May 4 to talk about issues related to gender equity in the STEM (science, engineering, math and technology) areas.

Grant seeks to create a more 'IDEAL' place for women in STEM
BGSU is taking an important step toward improving prospects for women and underrepresented minority men in the fields of science, math and technology. It is a partner with five other northern Ohio universities in a three-year, nearly $1 million National Science Foundation program called IDEAL— Institutions Developing Excellence in Academic Leadership.
