Dr. Sherry Sullivan, management, has been named winner of the 2008 Distinguished Educator Award by the Southwest Academy of
Management (SWAM).

Sullivan was selected by colleagues worldwide for the award, which honors an outstanding educator and role model. She received
the award March 5 during a Federation of Business Disciplines Recognition Banquet.
According to SWAM program chair Scott Douglas, “This award is highly competitive and highly coveted.” He added that the person
chosen to receive it has contributed to the teaching profession in an exemplary way.
Sullivan is the co-author, with Dr. Lisa A. Mainiero, of The Opt-Out Revolt: Why People Are Leaving Companies to Create Kaleidoscope Careers (2006, Davies-Black Publishing). She and Mainiero examined the careers of some 3,000 professionals, conducting three major
surveys as well as a focus group and in-depth interviews to learn what's behind the life and career decisions they make.
With more than 70 journal publications to her credit, Sullivan also is associate editor of the International Journal of Small
Business and serves on the editorial review boards of Human Resource Management, Career Development International and the
Journal of Managerial Psychology.
Sullivan earned her doctorate from Ohio State University and taught at Memphis State University before joining the organization
development and human resource management programs at BGSU.
She has taught undergraduate, MBA, executive and doctoral-level courses on careers, human resource management, organization
development, organization behavior, and training.
Sullivan has received numerous awards for her research, service contributions and teaching accomplishments, including, in
2002, the prestigious Janet Chusmir Award for mentoring and service from the Academy of Management.
