Spacer 2006 Alumni Laureate Scholars

Five students from the Centennial Class 2010 have earned Alumni Laureate Scholar distinction based on their leadership, scholarship, citizenship, achievement, personal integrity and involvement.

Kelsey Brugler
Kelsey Brugler of Warren, Ohio, attended John F. Kennedy High School where she maintained a 3.961 grade point average. She was National Honor Society treasurer; a member of Mu Alpha Theta mathematics club executive council and held membership of Students Against Drunk Driving, Key Club, Ohio Math League and Science Club. She played junior varsity and varsity softball and ran cross country and track, where she was co-captain for the varsity track team. She volunteered for many NHS community service and fund-raising activities, an American Red Cross blood drive, as a teacher for vacation Bible School and as a walker and fund-raiser for Relay for Life. She is a lifeguard and teaches swim lessons in her community. Brugler, who plans to major in broadcast journalism, is the daughter of Eric and Christine Brugler.

Brandi Freeman
Brandi Freeman of Bedford Heights, Ohio, graduated from Bedford High School, where she had a 3.97 grade point average. She was a member of National Honor Society, Cotillion, student government, Teens Who Listen and Care (TLC) and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), where she was vice president. She has volunteered for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, St. Herman’s Men’s Shelter and the American Red Cross blood drive. She takes Post-Secondary Enrollment Options classes and was named in Who’s Who of American High School Students. She also was named Outstanding Student of the Month, Outstanding Student of Science and a Lake Erie League Scholar Athlete. Freeman, who is the daughter of Sam and Sabrina Freeman, plans to major in mathematics.

Sundeep Mutgi
Sundeep Mutgi of Sylvania, Ohio, is a graduate of Sylvania Northview High School, where he maintained a 3.5 grade point average. He was a member of the Spanish club and drama club, and was vice president of the speech and debate team. He is president of the Promedica Health Explorers and a youth faith study group. Mutgi was selected as one of only 280 Lincoln Douglas debaters in a national competition and has placed in the top three at 15 speech and debate tournaments. He also earned the Americanism Scholarship. He volunteers with the YES project, Flower Hospital’s CAT scan laboratory and as a debate tutor. Mutgi, who plans to major in psychology, is the son of Anand and Barbara Mutgi.

Gregory Trusz
Gregory Trusz of Lucasville, Ohio, attended Valley High School, where he maintained a 4.0 grade point average. He was involved in marching band, pep band and the all-county band; quiz bowl; drama club; the mock trial team, and varsity soccer and tennis, where he was captain for both teams during his senior year. He was selected to participate in Informed Minds Preparing for a Challenging Tomorrow (IMPACT) and in the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference. He has been involved in numerous community service activities including raising funds for Hurricane Katrina relief, organizing a “meet the candidates night” and tutoring for Ohio Reads. Trusz, who is the son of Robert and Audrey Trusz, plans to major in business.
 
John Waynick
John Waynick of Troy, Mich., graduated from Troy Athens High School, where he maintained a 3.75 grade point average. He played soccer and baseball for the high school and club programs. He was a state DECA competitor, and a member of Athens’ Theatre Company and National Honor Society. He has volunteered as a tutor, a middle school special education assistant, a role model for the YMCA STRIVER program, and has been involved in raising funds for the American Liver Foundation and for the Henry Ford Liver Transplant program. He earned the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award and the Troy Youth Assistance Award. Waynick, who works at Downriver Refrigeration Supply, is the son of John and Karen Waynick. He plans to major in business economics.
