Asking the Right Questions to Make Informed Judgments

Bowling Green State University is engaged in an ambitious and exciting initiative in critical thinking as another step in preparing students who are not only educated but are also reflective citizens. Critical thinking about values is essential to the Bowling Green experience, so helping students develop the sensibilities and skills necessary to make informed judgments about difficult issues is paramount. It is seeing education in a very different light.

Questioning—asking what is the value of information—is very central to what the learning community strives to accomplish. There is an emphasis placed on multiple perspectives. It is a somewhat radical reworking of the educational approach, in which most learning is memory oriented, and questioning is not a major part of the process.

In the residential community of honors students called IMPACT, multiple approaches are used so that students take their learning beyond the classroom. They engage in critical thinking in the BGSU community and beyond. For more information on IMPACT, please click here
