Procedure for Campus Update/Notes
The Office of Marketing and Communications reminds the University community of the guidelines for submissions to Campus Update and Campus Notes. Please review the guidelines below to ensure successful publication of your announcements in the daily University-wide email and on the BGSU home page. Campus Update and Campus Notes are published by noon Monday through Friday. Submissions are due by 5 p.m. for the next day's announcements. You may also submit items further in advance. Remember that "post date" on the form refers to the date you want the item to run, not the date of the activity. To submit your announcement, click A-Z Links at the top of the home page, then locate the link to the Campus Update Form under Quick Links at the top right of that page. You can also find the form at: http://www.bgsu.edu/offices/mc/campusupdate/page13966.html. Items will only run once, unless under special circumstances. Please do not submit the same announcement to appear on multiple days. Announcements must pertain to official University events and organizations. Off-campus events will generally not be published. Be sure to include the time, date and location of the event, if applicable. Also include your contact information in case we need clarification about your submission. Student-oriented items are sent in the daily Campus Notes email, are posted on MyBGSU and are also accessible by clicking the first orange "Campus Update RSS Feed" icon under the banner on the BGSU home page. The "short summary of your event" box is what will appear on MyBGSU and on the RSS feed, and this is the best way to catch their eye about your announcement. Please compose a few sentences containing the most important details about your announcement. Our system will not receive submissions that surpass the 1,000-character limit in the main box. Do not extend the body of your message to the short summary or onto a second form. Please note the running character count at the bottom of the Campus Update form. Thank you for your cooperation. |

It's that month again--November. Members of the BGSU Men's Chorus will get a full-fledged blast of the cold air as they sit in a hot tub for 50 consecutive hours. Passers-by, for the price of donations, can play games with the chorus members such as "Chuck-a-duck," a game that involves throwing a rubber duck as far as possible and the chorus members jumping out of the tub and fetching it. Come support the Men's Chorus in the 17th annual Hot Tub-A-Thon Nov. 18-20. We accept cash, checks, credit/debit, and BG1 Cards. All donations are welcomed and appreciated. Elsewhere show: 'Key Changes' opens Thursday
The Department of Theatre & Film presents "Key Changes," a new musical, as part of its Elsewhere season. "Key Changes" was conceived and written by theatre faculty member Dr. Michael Ellison, with musical arrangements by Damian Stout and Robert Samels. There are moments in our lives--key moments in which thresholds are crossed. Whether spurred by forces outside of our control or propelled by choices we make, once we have crossed these thresholds our lives are changed profoundly. Through monologues and songs, "Key Changes" celebrates the resilience of the human spirit that springs from the ability we have to make choices and see from new perspectives. This production is a workshop presentation. Evaluation forms will be available for audiences to give feedback, and each show will have a talk-back session. Free and open to the public, "Key Changes" will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19-21, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Wooster Center. |

Popular Culture Colloquium Series November event
The third Popular Culture Colloquium of the 2009-10 school year will occur in 207 Student Union this Thursday at 11 a.m. "The Golden Avenger and the Dark Knight: Superheroes and National Security Cinema" Mr. Mark Bernard Ph.D. candidate, American Culture Studies The 2008 summer movie season was bookended by the blockbuster successes of two superhero movies: "Iron Man" (Jon Favreau, 2008) and "The Dark Knight" (Christopher Nolan, 2008). In addition to scoring a combined worldwide gross of over a billion and a half dollars, these films were also showered with critical praise that heralded the maturation of the superhero movie genre. Unfortunately absent from many of the discussions surrounding these films are their insidious ties to--and oftentimes endorsement of--the United States' national security policies. Mark Bernard will explore these connections by contextualizing the films within the genre of "National Security Cinema," films that justify homeland security policies and military action abroad by depicting the U.S. as vulnerable and under attack. |

Support needed for Karen Williams
Dear BGSU community members: Please consider making a donation to Karen Williams, administrative secretary in the Department of Management. Karen was diagnosed over three years ago with Systemic Scleroderma. She continues to work but must deal each day with this extremely debilitating disease. A dessert buffet/benefit is planned for spring; however, Karen continues to incur a wide assortment of expenses due to her treatment, care and condition, and she could use some assistance now to help pay off the extra bills that continue to pile up. Checks may be sent to Kelly Dove at kdove@bgsu.edu, Department of Economics, 3002 Business Administration Building, or may also be made directly to the "Karen Williams Benefit" account at any branch of the Huntington Bank. Karen and her family are determined to fight this disease for which there is no cure. It's not easy to ask for and accept help, but your support is definitely very much appreciated. Please contact Tina (Amos) Thomas, Department of History at tamos@bgsu.edu for additional info. |
