The Learning Commons

Academic Coaching

The Learning Commons has launched a new Academic Coaching program to assist BGSU students in a one-on-one setting.  A weekly meeting with an Academic Coach is one of the best ways to stay on track with your academic pursuits.  They will assist you in reviewing your course work and come up with strategies for studying and managing your time.

Academic Coaches are undergraduate and graduate students trained by faculty in the School of Intervention Services, which allows them to tailor their individualized help to your specific situation.  “The Academic Coaches have the tools necessary to work with students from a variety of backgrounds,” says Mark Nelson, Director of the Learning Commons.  He continues by saying, “Whether they have been struggling academically or have specific needs for learning, the Academic Coaches are prepared to provide strategies and assistance to help students succeed at BGSU.”

Academic Coaches provide:

  • Study strategies
  • Time management assistance
  • Individualized attention
  • To-do lists
  • Mapping out of assignments
  • Access to resources in the Jerome Library
  • Referral Services
