NCA Accreditation Activities
Over the
last five years everyone within the BGSU has worked very hard
to help us to realize our vision of becoming the premier learning
community in Ohio and one of the best in the nation. There have
been numerous opportunities, both internal and external, to allow
us to highlight our many successes. Another such opportunity is
now on the horizon: the University's ten-year re-accreditation
from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Our NCA
evaluation visit is scheduled for 2002-2003. While this may seem
to be a long way away, we need to begin our planning for this
activity now. This year we begin a three-year effort. We will
focus on appointing and charging the self-study coordinators,
steering committee, and working groups, and on developing a plan
for the self-study. The working groups will meet throughout 2001-2002
to draft the chapters of the self-study document. Efforts will
culminate during 2002-2003 when the self-study report will be
finalized and shared broadly, the NCA evaluation team will visit
and submit its report, and the NCA commission will take its action
on BGSU's continuing accreditation status.
I have
appointed Dr. Mark Gromko, Vice Provost for Academic Programs
and Dr. William Knight, Director of Planning and Institutional
Research as co-coordinators of our NCA self-study effort. Along
with the steering committee they will be responsible for directing
all aspects of the re-accreditation effort. They and I will be
working over the next several weeks to appoint and charge the
steering committee and to develop initial plans.
I look
forward to this chance to highlight the progress we have made
towards our vision and core values over the last several years
and thank you in advance for your support. Questions, concerns,
and suggestions regarding the re-accreditation effort are welcome
and should be shared with Drs. Gromko and Knight.
