Latin American & Latina/o Studies
The overarching goal of the cluster is to articulate and realize a collective professional identity in order to make Latin American and Latina/o Studies more visible and meaningful areas of study at Bowling Green State University . This group functions as an environment in which faculty members with related research and pedagogical interests can develop common goals, contacts, materials and projects. There was previously no forum through which BGSU professors of Latin American and Latina/o Studies could regularly exchange ideas and information about our interrelated research topics and courses. With this in mind, the addition of this cluster fills a vital need on campus.

The 10th Ohio Latin Americanist Conference was held at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, on February 18-19, 2011. Over 100 scholarly presentations from Ohio and throughout the region were delivered in 28 panels and a special presentation in the university planetarium was given in conjunction with the conference.
This year’s conference included panel presentations and two major events: the screening of the documentary 9500 Liberty and a keynote address by Dr. Ana Patricia Rodríguez, Associate Professor in the University of Maryland and author of Dividing the Isthmus: Central American Transnational Histories, Literatures and Cultures. The conference culminated in a Gran Baile in the historic Cla-Zel theater in downtown Bowling Green.
Many thanks to all those who worked to make this year's conference a success.
