WINNERS OF OUR 2012 RAFFLE

On Monday, April 23, 2012, we teamed up with the Student Alumni Connection from Alumni & Development to put on an event to celebrate our seniors.  Hundreds of students came to partake in the carnival games, free food, and honoring scholarship winners.  Tuition Raffle drew the names of winners of this year's prizes:

Full-Semester Scholarship ($5,022): Shelbi Heydinger

Half-Semester Scholarship ($2,511): Taylor Wycoff

Book Scholarship ($200): Amy Boellner

WHO ARE WE?

The Tuition Raffle is the second-largest student run fundraiser at BGSU, and has been raising money for Honors scholarships since 1971.  To raise money, we sell raffle tickets to the local community for an opportunity to win a semester or half-semester's worth of tuition, in addition to other prizes like book scholarships or goodies from local businesses.  The raffle is open to all students, and the drawing is held in April of every year.  The proceeds from the year's efforts endow the Carrie J. Dulin Service Scholarships, Tom Klein Leadership Scholarship, and J. Robert Bashore Scholarships.  These three awards go to recognize Honors students who exemplify leadership, academic excellence, involvement, pursuit of liberal arts education, or commitment to their community.

EVENTS

The Tuition Raffle has several big events every year in which the whole community is invited to participate:

LABELING PARTY:  In order to send postcards out to the community, we need some help labeling them!  Students who participate are treated to free food, some entertainment, as well as different prizes throughout the event.  

FINAL RAFFLE: Keep watch for the final drawing of the Tuition winner at the final event of the year in April!

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

There are a variety of ways to get involved.  The opportunities range from helping out at our events or joining us for the full-year.  You can also help by donating money that goes straight into the scholarships, or donate prizes for our events throughout the year.  Involvement opportunities are below:

COMMITTEE MEMBERS: Members of our committee are dedicated to philanthropy and service.  This group of students meets once a week to work on fundraising, marketing ideas, smaller events, and planning our big events: fundraising, the labeling party, and final prize drawing.

Committee members develop important skills such as creative problem solving, team work, oral and written communication, fundraising experience, and event planning.  Applications are preferred at the beginning of the year, but accepted year-round.

GENERAL MEMBERS: If you want to donate your time but can't be on our committee, email us to volunteer at our events.  As listed above, we have several events we would welcome volunteers. Let us know if you want to be part of them!

PRIZE DONOR: We raffle off prizes throughout the year, as well as offer prizes as reward for volunteering at our events.  If you want to contribute a prize for our cause, please let us know! Our contact information is above.

SUPPLY DONOR: In addition to prizes we also have other needs for food and supplies for our events.  For example, Pisanello's has been a long-standing donor of pizza for our stuffing and labeling parties.  Ask how you can help!

SCHOLARSHIP DONOR: Of course, our mission is to directly support our three major scholarships, so if you want to donate directly to the scholarships, download the form in the next section!

HOW CAN I PURCHASE TICKETS?

To purchase tickets, please go to our website at: https://commerce.cashnet.com/BGSUHNRS.  Here, you will find the option to donate or purchase ticket orders.  We have a variety of ticket packages you can select for your student.  You will receive an email confirmation of your purchase.  Once we receive your order, we assign you your raffle tickets for the big draw!

Note on March 20, 2012: Some folks have reported having issues with an error that requires "a minimum of 3 characters" in the box intended for "Number of Tickets."  We are working on fixing this issue now, but for now, please enter your numbers like "1.0" or "15." in the box.  If you have any other issues please email Jessica at jchung@bgsu.edu.
