Get Involved !!!
The Honors Alumni Society encourages Honors alumni to post co-op or internships specifically for current Honors students ( click here for information about the difference between a co-op and internship). This is an easy and mutually beneficial way to get involved and contribute as an alum/na. For more information about co-ops and internships please review the Co-op At-A-Glance Newsletter published by the BGSU Career Center.
A REMINDER: In order to offer these internships specifically to Honors students we ask that after you complete the below procedure please send a completed co-op or internship description to the Honors Program so we may also post the opportunities on our web site. This is the best way for us to alert the current Honors students of your posting and then to refer them to the Career Center website to apply for your posted position. Employers participating in the Cooperative Education and Internship Program (CEIP) have the following responsibilities:
- Adhere to the Career Center’s recruiting policies .
- Complete the online job posting form prior to the semester start date of the work period (*NOTE - IN THE DESCRIPTION AND CRITERIA SECTIONS PLEASE LIST “Must be a member of the BGSU Honors Program to apply” This is a way for us to ensure that Honors students apply).
- Notify the Career Center each semester that a BGSU Co-op or intern student is hired. This is a must so that the student will receive the proper notation on his/her transcript and be qualified for the Co-op of the Year Award nomination.
- Complete and return the Employer Verification Form.
- Assign responsibilities consistent with CEIP’s student learning outcomes:
- To gain practical experience while applying classroom learning at the workplace.
- To enhance professional skills.
- To experience personal and professional growth.
- Assign responsibilities consistent with the student’s academic program and career interests.
- Provide on-site supervision.
- Provide students with informal feedback on job performance throughout the assignment.
- Conduct a formal evaluation with the student each semester using the CEIP online evaluation .
Are you creative? Do you have a knack for creating logos and designs?
If so, you can get involved and help the Honors Alumni Society create a logo. We are asking alumni to demonstrate their expert computer graphic skills.
Basic guidelines for the logo include:
1. Representative of the Honors Alumni Society
2. Designed in a vector-based program (i.e. Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, In-Design) This will allow for the logo to be scaled to any size without losing resolution
3. Formatted as a JPEG and TIF image
4. Composed in black and white. If you prefer to use color please produce a black and white version as well.
Send your masterpiece to Paul Valdez at firstname.lastname@example.org . The Executive Board members of the Society will vote on which entry to designate as our official logo.
Do you have an interesting experience you would like to share? Are there important topics you wish you would have had more information about as an Honors student? Do you want to help inform current Honors students about your life experiences?
If so, please send us a request to be part of the Speaker’s Bureau. Just send us your topic idea, or if you would like to take part in a general topic session we can notify you of opportunities to do so. Please send your request to the Honors Program at email@example.com .
Topics may include but are not limited to:
- chosen field of alumnus
- how the Honors Program prepared you for life
- application of critical thinking skills
- benefits of interdisciplinary scholarship
- study abroad opportunities
- professional development
- graduate school planning
