Bowling Green State University Honors Alumni Society
To provide Honors Student Association (HSA) alumni and friends with an opportunity to network and socialize with graduates while supporting current students pursuing their educational goals.
Bowling Green State University Honors Alumni Society
To provide HSA alumni and friends opportunities to network and socialize.
1. Create Bi-annual newsletter series to provide BGSU HSA alumni and friends with timely and accurate information about the Honors Student Association, the University Honors Program, Honors faculty and staff, and upcoming events.
2. Sponsor annual Homecoming Tent Party.
3. Sponsor local cultural events (e.g., trips to museums and plays) in which alumni can take advantage of free or reduced tickets.
To provide current HSA members and friends support as they pursue their educational goals.
1. Work to provide internship and cooperative educational opportunities.
2. Provide guest lectures and panel discussions for current students about achieving life and career goals.
3. Support scholarships and initiatives available to current members.
Bowling Green State University Honors Alumni Society
Article I: NAME
The organization will be named the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Honors Alumni Society.
Article II: STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
To provide Honors Student Association (HSA) alumni and friends with an opportunity to network and socialize with graduates while supporting current students pursuing their educational goals.
Article III: MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the BGSU Honors Alumni Society will be open to any former Bowling Green State University student who participated in the Honors Student Association or other Honors-affiliated groups or programs while a student at Bowling Green State University.
Article IV: ORGANIZATION
Section A: Time and Place of Meeting
1. The BGSU Honors Alumni Society will hold an annual meeting on the Saturday designated by BGSU as “Homecoming”.
a. A business meeting will be held for the purpose of electing trustees for the ensuing term.
b. Other Homecoming activities will be planned by the Honors Alumni Society in consultation with the Associate Director of the Honors Program at BGSU.
2. The BGSU Honors Alumni Society may call any other meetings as it desires during the year.
Section B: The Honors Alumni Society
1. The governing body of the Honors Alumni Society will be the Honors Alumni Society Board and will consist of eight (8) trustees.
2. Board member terms last for two years.
3. The Associate Director of the Honors Program will serve as a non-voting ex-officio member of the Honors Alumni Society.
4. The officers of the Honors Alumni Society will be the chair, chair-elect, the immediate past chair, and the secretary/treasurer.
5. The Honors Alumni Society may appoint other at-large members or chair positions as it deems necessary. It may include as many Honors Alumni members in the planning of events as it feels is necessary to successfully fulfill the obligations of the organization.
6. The Honors Alumni Society may call committee meetings at its discretion.
7. The Honors Alumni Society shall maintain records of their activities including minutes, newsletters, and other pertinent material, for future reference.
8. After elected, the chair-elect will begin a term of three years, which includes the terms of chair-elect, chair, and immediate past chair.
Section C: Election of Officers
1. The officers will be elected annually by the Honors Alumni Society prior to Homecoming.
Section D: Election of HSA Alumni Society (Trustees)
1. Four trustees will be elected each year and will serve a two year term.
2. If a trustee is elected as chair-elect and his/her term of trustee is at an end, he/she will be automatically elected as one of the four trustees.
3. New trustees will be sought out annually and a slate of candidates for election to the Alumni Society will be presented at Homecoming to the members of the BGSU Honors Alumni Society.
4. Candidates for the Alumni Society (trustees) may also be nominated from the floor.
5. Board members (trustees) will be considered elected after receiving a plurality of the votes by the participating members.
6. Only those members attending the annual meeting will be permitted to vote. There will be no provisions for vote by proxy.
Section E: Duties and Responsibilities of the Officers
1. Chair– the chair will serve as the executive officer of the BGSU HSA Alumni Society and of the Board of Trustees. He/she will serve as chairperson of the annual event at Homecoming and at other major activities for a period of one year.
2. Chair-Elect - the chair-elect will be elected to serve for three years, the first year as chair-elect, automatically advancing to the office of chair for the second, and the third year as past chair.
3. Immediate past chair - the immediate past chair will remain an officer for a term of one year. During this year, he/she will serve as support to the current chair.
4. Secretary/Treasurer - the secretary/treasurer will be elected for a term of two years and will prepare minutes for each Honors Alumni Society meeting during the term of office, will be responsible for recording a report of the annual Homecoming event, and will see that the minutes are kept for future reference. The secretary/treasurer will be responsible for maintaining an accurate accounting of the funds of the organization, and will pay all bills approved by the Honors Alumni Society.
Article V: AMENDMENTS
Section A: Adoption
This document may be amended by formally presenting an amendment and having that amendment approved by a 2/3 majority of the participating members at the annual Homecoming meeting.
Section B: Procedure
Amendments may be formally presented when a majority of the Honors Alumni Society officers deem it necessary or when a petition, signed by at least twenty-five participating members, is presented at the annual Homecoming meeting.
Article VI: BGSU SOCIETY
1. The Honors Alumni Society will complete and submit an annual report to the Office of Alumni Development.
2. The Honors Alumni Society will assist in recruiting students to the university.
3. The Honors Alumni Society will support a scholarship or educational assistance program.
4. The Honors Alumni Society will initiate fund-raising to contribute to the stability of the society. The Honors Alumni Society will promote Alumni Association Programs.
5. The Honors Alumni Society will nominate individuals for the Alumni Association Board of Trustees.
Article VII: APPROVAL AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE DOCUMENT
This document will be considered approved and accepted when ratified by 2/3 of the participating members of the BGSU Honors Alumni Society at the annual meeting to be held on Homecoming, Fall 2007.
