Ryan Kerr, Class of ‘03
After graduating from BGSU in 2003, I signed on with AmeriCorps and moved east to Vermont. There I served two years with the Brattleboro Boys & Girls Club, mentoring, coaching, organizing, and helping to promote the well-being of our non-profit program. In 2005 I moved back to Ohio, and became the program coordinator for a non-profit after school program, Cleveland SCORES. Operating within 7 schools in the Cleveland Municipal School District, our program brought poetry and soccer programming to a district that had largely cut back funding for sports and arts activities. After working for Cleveland SCORES for a little over a year I am currently enrolled in Kent State University, pursuing my M.Ed in school counseling. In the long run I hope to become a counselor on the high school level (though who knows where), and possibly pursue a career in education administration. All of this is light years away from my undergraduate degree in Film Theory & Criticism. I couldn't recommend AmeriCorps more!
