Honors Program Alumni
Alumni Profiles

Jackie Blem, Class of ‘91
Degrees earned at BGSU: BA in Philosophy, minor in student affairs
BGSU Involvement: Also sorts of things for the Honors Student Association and the Student Wellness Center
Hometown: Findlay, Ohio
Currently reside: Denver, Colorado
Current Occupation: I'm a Manager for Tattered Cover Bookstore
Other occupations: write book reviews for Book Sense. And just recently I've begun my own home based business making specialty party foods. At one point I even managed a dance company, though that's been years ago at this point.
Significant Accomplishments: My current job allows me to brush elbows with the likes of Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Barack Obama and many others. I helped Stephen King find his coat and Bill Cosby surprise a bookstore full of people. I've been very briefly featured on Rachel Ray's Tasty Travels, interviewed by the New York Times for my Harry Potter based recipes and had my book reviews featured in major ad campaigns. Is any of that really significant--no. But it sure is fun!
Interests and Hobbies: I'm a Colorado girl now--hiking, biking, camping, snow shoeing and white water rafting are on the top of my list of favorite things to do. But skiing....not so much (come visit me and I'll tell you about the Great Bunnyhill Humiliation of 2006! lol) In quieter times I still love to cook, quilt and craft. And these days, books are a profession AND a passion.
Fond Memories of BGSU Honors: Painting the walls of the Honors Center...Traveling to Washington DC....Tie-dying t-shirts 'til we turned blue in the face...All of the wonderful people I met thanks to the Honors Program...Being introduced to Harold and Maude...
Impact of BGSU Honors Program on your life: I wrote a letter to a freshman as part of orientation who ended up being one of the most influential people in my life--it's because of him that I am where I am doing what I'm doing. My life would have been profoundly different without the Honors Program and I'm still grateful every day that I had the experiences I had in my years with the program.
Additional Info: I live in a place that I love with a person that I love and do work that I love. What more can a person ask from life?
