Operation of the Jacuzzi pump
Cleaning the flume
1. Flip the start switch on the Jacuzzi pump up (high) and let run for 30 minutes.
2. Bleed the air out of the diatom filter by opening the air release valve on the top of the diatom filter. When water comes out, close the valve.
3. Press "REV" on the flume pump controller.
4. Periodically check the intake hose of the Jacuzzi pump to make sure that it is not stuck to the side of the flume.
5. Check the pressure reading on the top of the diatom filter. It should read no greater than 20 psi.
6. If it is 20 psi, then regenerate the diatom filter. (Regeneration)
7. If the pressure jumps back to 20 psi within 30 minutes of regenerating the diatom filter. It needs to be cleaned. (Cleaning).
8. Regeneration of Diatom Filter
9. Unplug the pump.
10. Grasp wiper handle located on top of the filter. Pull the pump handle up and down several pumps to loosen the diatoms.
11. When a full stroke is obtained, move the handle up and down 4 to 5 times.
12. Return pump to bottom position.
13. Plug into outlet.
14. Turn on.
Cleaning Jacuzzi Pump
1. Unplug the pump.
2. Drain the filter tank by removing the drain cap and opening the air bleed valve.
3. This will make a mess on the floor, but that is fine.
4. Press down on the filter yellow safety tab and rotate the large ring lock.
5. Pull up on the cover.
6. Grab the two black lifting straps on the grid.
7. Take to an open area in the lab and remove the straps.
8. Slide the grid support off of the wiper rod.
9. Pull the wiper rod out and lift off of the grid assembly.
10. Remove the grids from the assembly.
11. Clean the grids with a high pressure hose.
12. Wash out any debris or diatoms left in the filter tank.
13. Clean the O-ring on the filter body and cover with petroleum jelly.
14. Reinstall the cleaned grids into the bottom of the manifold.
15. Reinstall the wiper assembly.
16. Slide the top support plate onto the wiper rod.
17. Put the plastic spacer on the wiper rod.
18. Reinstall the Velcro straps.
19. Put the reassembled grid cassette into the filter tank.
20. Align the wiper rod and place on the cover to the filter tank.
21. Tighten the top down. Replace the wiper blade handle.
22. Open the top to the filter strainer.
23. Mix diatimaceous earth with a bucket of water. 2 scoops should be good.
24. Prime the pump.
25. Plug in the pump and turn on.
26. As the water flows, slowly pour the diatom mixture into the strainer.
27. Repeat with additional water until all of the diatoms are poured into the filter.
28. Let the Jacuzzi pump run for 1 hour.
