Operation of the big flume
Filling the Flume
1.) Fill the flume using the hose connected to the tap and with the red garden hose outside the wet lab.
2.) Fill the flume to within 0.5 cm of the top of the fins.
3.) Check for leaks!!
4.) Place the large air bar in the glass section of the flume.
5.) Turn on the flow to the flume (see section on operating the flow) to 15 Hz.
6.) Turn on the Jacuzzi pump for 30 minutes at a setting of low (see page on Jacuzzi pump).
7.) Make sure that the intake for the Jacuzzi pump is not sucking in air from the air bar.
8.) Let flume pump run for 4 hours.
Operating the flow in the big flume
1.) Make sure that the flume is full. Never run the pump without water in the flume.
2.) Check for leaks.
3.) Make sure that the collimators are in place.
4.) Power to the control box is always on.
5.) Press "Rev" button. "Rev" is the correct direction for flow, do not press the "Forward" button.
6.) Press the up or down buttons to control speed of the pump. The chart below shows the corresponding flow speeds in cm/s when the control box displays a particular Hz.
7.) Shut the pump off by either hitting the red stop button or using the down arrows to slow the pump to 0 Hz.
