Welcome to IMPACT

The mission of IMPACT is to provide a challenging intellectual experience for a small group of exceptionally achievement-oriented BGSU Honors students who are wanting to grow as thoughtful and committed citizens and who realize the wisdom of pursuing that growth through studying critical thinking and moral development.

IMPACT was cited in the Monitor for its recent achievements.

IMPACT member, Bethany Nanamker was also noted for her internship with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Two IMPACT'ers recently won an International Animation Competition sponsored by Dreamworks.

Nine members of IMPACT recently finished 8th in the nation out of 700 teams at the national Mock Trial Championships in Minneapolis.

Upcoming Events:

December 2008

  • Exploration of the many varieties of irrationality in psychology, philosophy, and literature in preparation for focusing on the various types of rationality next semester.
  • Discussion of 2 films about greed as prelude to additional discussion about human motivation next semester.
  • Examination of our experience with Arthur Miller’s The Crucible at the Toledo Rep.

Spring 2009

  • Trip to Toronto for plays, museums and galleries.
  • Ann Arbor and Cleveland International Film Festivals
  • Participation in the National Undergraduate Research Conference at the University of Wisconsin.
  • Sessions about advanced critical thinking.
  • Great Books weekend at a bed and breakfast discussing great books in science.
