Housing for Honors Students
If your student chooses to live in the Honors Learning Community, he or she will be living in Dunbar hall, which is located in the Harshman Quadrangle. Do you want to take a virtual tour of Dunbar? Yes!

What is included in the rooms?

  • Two single beds
  • Two closets or wardrobes
  • Two computer outlets
  • Two desks with chairs
  • Two dressers
  • Two wastebaskets
  • One TV outlet
  • One analog telephone line with voice mailbox and Caller-ID capability

What is a learning community?

The learning community is available to all Honor students and their roommates. This community focuses on academic, cultural and social programming to enhance the learning experiences of its residents. This community provides the opportunity for common courses and service learning to foster student success and friendship.

What are the benefits of living in the Honors Learning Community?

Your student will be living in an area that is close to the library, Kreischer Dining Center, Student Rec, stadium, ice arena, intramural fields, student parking, and a variety of academic classroom buildings.

When should my student sign up for housing?

If you know that you would like to live in Honors housing (learning community) please sign up for this as soon as possible. The absolute last day to sign up for the learning community is May 1st. Also, keep in mind you do not have to be accepted into the Honors Program to live in the learning community housing.

When will I know who my roommate is?

You will find out who your roommate is in June through the mail, however, you can also check online at My BGSU on the home page.

What are the sizes of the mattresses?

The majority of beds on campus are extra-long twin size, 80" x 36," however, some rooms have standard twin size beds, 76" x 36. See what size bed is in your room.

Is there storage in the rooms?

Yes. Each room has two closets with built-in storage.

Are there computer labs available?

Yes, there is one computer lab for each hall that consists of 10 computers with printer access. In addition, Honors students have access to computers in the Honors Learning Community. There are also several labs located throughout campus as well as the library.

Is there an extra cost for cable television?

No, cable is included in your housing fee.

How many people will live on each floor?

There will be at maximum 98 students on each floor (49 on each wing).

Will my student’s roommate be another honor student?

Not necessarily, however, all students who apply to reside in the Honors Learning Community must have a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher.

Are there smoking and non-smoking rooms?

No. All rooms are non-smoking. There are designated areas outside of the building for smoking.

How long are students required to live in a residence hall?

Students are required to live in a residence hall for at least 2 years if they do not live within a 50 mile radius of Bowling Green.

How will my student receive his/her mail and packages?

Students are assigned a mailbox that will be located on the first floor next to the front desk. Any packages will be delivered to the front desk for the student to pick up.

Are housing tours/class visits available?

Yes. Housing tours are available only during business hours: Monday-Friday, 8-5. Please contact the Honors office to set up an appointment.

What are the sizes of the rooms?

15 ft by 10 ft.

Do males and females live on the same floor?

Yes. Each floor is in the shape of the letter “L”. Each floor consists of one wing for males and the other wing for females. Each wing has separate bathroom areas.

Can the beds be lofted?

Yes. All beds can be lofted.

Who will be able to enter the Harshman Quadrangle?

Each student will be given a Personal Entry Device (PED). During the work week from 8 a.m.-12a.m. first floor doors are unlocked. Only students with a PED will be able to access elevators and stairwells. In order to access bathrooms a keypad is in use.

Where can my student park?

During the business week from Monday through Friday 8-5, students must be parked in Lot 6. After 5 p.m. students will be able to park anywhere on campus with the exception of reserved, disability, and faculty parking spots. Information on parking.

To sign up for the Honors Community:

  • Go to http://my.bgsu.edu.
  • Enter your BGSU ID, BGNET Username and Authentication Password.
  • Click on My Room and Meals.
  • Under the Residential Learning/Theme Communities pull down menu, you will need to select the Honors Community.
  • List Harshman Quadrangle as first choice for residential area preference.

Please encourage your student to personally fill out the preference sheet they received in their housing packet and submit this with their housing application.
