Honors Scholars group picture


The mission of Honors Scholars (formally known as IMPACT) is to provide a challenging intellectual experience for a small group of exceptionally achievement-oriented BGSU Honors students who are wanting to grow as thoughtful and committed citizens and who realize the wisdom of pursuing that growth through studying critical thinking and moral development.

One Honors Scholar won a national research contest in 2008 and was designated “National Undergraduate Research Scholar of the Year”

Eight Honors Scholars have recently published research articles in professional journals.

IMPACT (now Honors Scholars) was cited in the Monitor for its recent achievements.

IMPACT (now Honors Scholars) member, Bethany Nanamker was also noted for her internship with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Two IMPACT'ers (now Honors Scholars)won an International Animation Competition sponsored by Dreamworks.

Nine members of IMPACT (now Honors Scholars) finished 8th in the nation out of 700 teams at the national Mock Trial Championships in Minneapolis.


Upcoming Events:

  • Trip to Toronto and Chicago for plays, Independent Films, museums and galleries.
  • Participation in the National Undergraduate Research Conference at the University of Wisconsin.
  • Sessions about advanced critical thinking.
  • Attendance at and analysis of the major documentary film festival in the United States in Durham North Carolina.
  • 100% acceptance rate of Honors Scholars research proposals at the highly competitive National Undergraduate Research Conference at University of Wisconsin.
  • Focus on critical thinking and moral principles through the study of two major dramatists: Tom Stoppard and Neil LaBute.  Honors Scholars read 10 plays by each author and examined the arguments in those plays.
  • Weekend Great Books Event in Ann Arbor where Honors Scholars discussed 18 books exploring the significance of science and scientific thinking.
