Christine Cucciarre cpcucci@bgnet.bgsu.edu
Making connections between what students learn in my class and what they learn in other classes and environments is at the
center of my teaching philosophy. I attempt to awaken students’ ability to find relationships inside and outside of class
with the goal that they see their university experience holistically rather than as disparate credits that culminate into
a degree. In order to achieve this heightened sense of awareness, I frequently talk about how what we are doing in class relates
to other events or issues. My students, in turn, often begin making their own connections. This free association of ideas
creates a classroom culture where students feel we are all learning together, where they feel comfortable in challenging themselves,
others, and me. As a result, students more fully participate in discussion, activities, and critical thinking in class and
outside of class.
