The best way to teach writing is to inspire in students a want to write well. The easiest way to do this is to let students
in on the fact that being a good writer is being a good communicator; and being a good communicator is being a better student
and a better person. This may sound grand, but if a student can learn to appreciate the value of communication in everyday
life then the want to write well comes easily. As much as they complain about it, students feel good when they know they have
produced good writing. My basic philosophy of teaching composition is to make students want to chase that feeling one gets
when he or she writes well.
