My classes are based around a "think outside the box" approach. Question things, be curious, find unexpected connections,
learn to engage the larger world and find your place in it. Following that, then students can write outside the box, that
is, not be hindered by any self-imposed boundaries or censorship. This doesn't mean ignoring all the conventions of writing
and argument, but to find the best way to engage a subject within those boundaries. I want them to find their own process
of writing and be comfortable with knowing that writing is a process, not a product. I try to emphasize that I'm a practicing
writer and let them see that writers really do write multiple drafts and proofread and all the things that I want them to
learn.
