GSW's Reputation Involving Assessment Practices

General Studies Writing’s work in assessment is well‐known outside of BGSU, and over the years GSW’s administrators have been regularly contacted for consultant work or to make presentations related to writing assessment practices. Recent examples: In September 2008, GSW’s Director presented a session on GSW’s assessment practices at a luncheon attended by 90 faculty members at the University of Mississippi. In October 2008, GSW’s Director served as an external reviewer for the Mary K. Croft Tutoring and Learning Center at the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point. In April 2010, GSW’s Director conducted two ½‐day writing‐across‐the‐curriculum workshops at Buena Vista University in Iowa; one of the workshops was on the creation and use of writing rubrics for various disciplines. In April 2010, GSW sponsored and hosted a one‐day symposium titled “Best Assessment Practices in First‐Year Writing,” which was attended by writing program administrators from 12 institutions throughout Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana, as well as by GSW’s 33 full‐time instructors.
