Awards in Support of Undergraduate Research (ASUR): Student Researchers, Fall 2010

Ten undergraduate students participated in the Awards in Support of Undergraduate Research (ASUR) program sponsored by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship during the fall semester, 2010. Each student worked closely with a faculty mentor on an independent research project or creative scholarly activity over a minimum of ten weeks. Depending on their area of interest, these student scholars conducted experiments out in the field and in labs, performed applied projects in the arts, or studied best practices in their discipline. The participating students and their projects are listed below.

Pictured above are examples of student work: Andrea Hall studied restoration of Albumen prints (top left & bottom left); Rachel Marvin and Christopher Wagner studied genetic variations in mating of Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies; top, middle); Andrew Durkee studied water samples containing toxic algae from Grand Lake St. Marys (top right); Phillip Boda studied binding properties of DNA sequences contained in DHD, a drug compound used in cancer research (bottom, right).
