What is CITE?
CITE is a center on the Bowling Green
State University Campus dedicated to fostering collaborative
efforts in urban and regional Pre K-12 education and
in interdisciplinary university programming at undergraduate
and graduate levels.
CITE’s vision is firmly rooted
in the transformative power of education and educational
institutions to address critical, social, cultural,
and economic needs.
CITE strategies for change involve
an emphasis on both re-thinking and reforming structural
and pedagogical dynamics and practices.
CITE projects inlude facilitating
the reworking of Pre K-12 schooling, preparing pre-service
student educators, and providing professional development
for educators in academic and non-academic settings.
CITE major thrust is the development
of interdisciplinary programs that emphasize the complex
and critical educational and social/economic needs of
children and their families.
CITE serves as a vehicle for bringing
multiple constituencies together around issues of education
and democratic participation in community life.
CITE collaborations must be based
on reciprocity, shared decision making, and mutual benefit
for all parties. In this age of competing interests
among social, political, economic, and cultural groups,
the only way to bring educational and social justice
goals to fruition is by working collaboratively and
democratically across areas of difference.
