eTime for Students February 11, 2003
Many members of the University community have been working on the new electronic time reporting system for students, which
we are calling eTime for Students. This new system will provide a more efficient and systematic way to capture the student.s
time. This letter will bring you up to date on what has been happening.
Time sheets will be a thing of the past.
Students will record their time in one of two ways -
- In areas with high numbers of student employees, card readers will be installed. When starting or ending work, the student
will swipe their student ID card and enter their appointment number. The time will be captured automatically to the minute
(there will be no rounding or grace periods). We are looking at about 35 to 40 areas where card readers may be installed.
- Other areas with lesser numbers of students will use a PC where the student will enter a logon ID and a password, then enter
their appointment ID numbers. They will then click on a time stamp button and log out. Here the time will be captured to the
minute also (no rounding or grace periods).
ITS has enabled this project to happen by purchasing the software, the hardware (servers), training classes, and card readers.
All the employers with card readers will have to do is pay for a bic (if needed) to get connected to the bgSupernet and any
wiring that may be needed.
When will this happen? We are looking at pilot testing in May, with full implementation in the summer.
How will I be trained? BGSU will send a core group of people to training to enable them to train others, who will train you. We will follow the train-the-trainer
approach. You will be notified when this will occur.
Call if you have questions If you believe you want a card reader, or have any question at all, just give Jim Stainbrook a call at 2-8530 or email at
jstainb@bgnet.bgsu.edu.
