Network Outage Scheduled for December 28
On Tuesday, December 28 a maintenance upgrade will be completed by our OARnet service provider. It is estimated that there
will be a 15 minute downtime period for our Internet connection as this maintenance upgrade is completed between 5 am and

A new Microsoft Software Campus Agreement became effective as of July 1, 2004. This agreement allows the University to offer
access to popular Microsoft software at substantial savings for faculty, staff, and students. Students purchasing the software

Sunday Oct. 10 from 12:30-1:30 am - Keyserver will be upgraded and keyserved applications will be unavailable.
Monday, Oct. 11 from 6:30-7:00am - Network maintenance will be completed during this time. Internet connections and other
applications relying on the network will be unavailable.
Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 6:30-7:00am - An Oracle database upgrade will cause the following applications to be unavailable during
this time: e-Time for Students, Resource 25, Remedy, Pinnacle Telephone Billing, Class (Rec Center software), Rhythmyx Content
Management, and BGSU account creation.
Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 7-7:30 am - A Residence Hall network upgrade will be completed. During this time resident hall network
users will be able to access servers on campus, however, Internet access from residence halls will be unavailable.

Extended MyBGSU Hours
MyBGSU will be available additional hours the following dates: Saturday, August 21 from 7:30 am - 9pm; Sunday, August 22 from
7:30am - 11:59pm; Monday, August 23 from 12:01am - 6am and 6:30am - 9pm.
MyBGSU may be unavailable for up to a 30 minute period beginning at 5:30pm on Sunday August 22 in order to complete necessary
system functions.
Parking, Change Home Address, My Financial Aid Status, and Hire a Student Employee applications will not be available during
extended hours.

MyBGSU Outage Scheduled for Monday, June 28
MyBGSU is scheduled for an outage on Monday, June 28th from 1am to 5am in order to upgrade the Blackboard course management
system.
This upgrade contains significant improvements to the gradebook and assessment tools. It also contains a handful of new features
like a quick edit view, WYSIWYG content item editing (Windows/IE only), internal messaging, and a glossary tool.

BGNet Server Software to be Upgraded
There will be an outage of the BGNet e-mail system on Thursday, June 17, between midnight and 1 a.m. to allow for a software

BGNet Virus Filtering Upgraded
There will be a series of brief interruptions in e-mail delivery on Thursday, June 10, between midnight and 1 a.m. to allow
for an upgrade of the mail transport and virus filtering software on the BGNet servers. These brief outages will not effect
the ability to check e-mail but may cause short delays in sending or receiving messages during the upgrade period.

BGNet SPAM filtering to be upgraded
There will be an interruption of BGNet SPAM filtering on Thursday, May 13,2004 from 12:01 a.m. until 4:00 a.m. to allow for
an upgrade to the SPAM filtering software. This upgrade is designed to provide improvement in the ability of the mail system
to accurately identify and tag SPAM messages. There will be no interruption of mail delivery or virus protection as a result
of this upgrade, and no user level configuration changes will be necessary. Any questions regarding this upgrade or BGNet

Hayes 127 Lab and Library Lab to be upgraded
The machines in the Hayes 127 Lab and Library (122 Jerome) Lab will be upgraded on Tuesday, May 11 and Wednesday, May 12.
Once complete, the Hayes 127 Lab will have iMacs (1.25GHz, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive-DVD-R/CD-RW, Firewire,
17" monitor, running OS X)and GX270 SmallForm Factor Dells (2.80GHz, Pentium 4, 512MB RAM, 64MB graphics card, 80GB Hard Drive,
3.5" floppy drive, 8x DVD+RW/+R and 48X CD-ROM, Firewire, and 17" flat panel display running Windows XP). The Library Lab

The eTime for Students system will be unavailable March 9 & 10 in order to allow for the completion of a system upgrade. The
system will be unavailable from Tuesday, March 9 at 9:00 a.m. through Wednesday, March 10 at midnight. During the time of
the outage, the card swipe devices and web application will be unavailable. Reporting any student time worked during this
outage period will need to be completed manually by supervisors when the system returns to production on Thursday, March 11.

On Sunday, March 7 at 2:00 a.m. all network services will be unavailable in order to complete a hardware upgrade. Once the
hardware upgrade has been completed, network services will systematically be restored during the outage period. It is anticipated

in order to complete hardware maintenance that began on Monday. During this period there may be delays in the delivery of
incoming email messages. Any messages received during this time will be queued for delivery following the resumption of services.

Information Security Advisory for Microsoft Windows Users
The BGSU ITS Information Security Office has issued an advisory concerning a serious software flaw that impacts several Microsoft
security applications. This is referred to as the "ASN.1 Library" vulnerability.
Attackers are expected to exploit this vulnerability within a few weeks, so prompt attention is recommended. Please run the
Microsoft Windows Update procedure at your earliest convenience, and install all critical updates. If you experience delays
or connection problems with the Microsoft support site, please try again later.

MyDoom Virus Alert
The ITS Information Security Office has issued an alert regarding a Windows virus called MyDoom. This is a rapidly spreading
virus that is being spread via email attachments and peer-to-peer file sharing applications. It is recommended that email
