Early Alerts – Student View

Early Alert is a method of communication between faculty and students to alert students within the first 3 to 5 weeks of potential performance and attendance issues that could impact their success in the class.

This program is designed to alert students if they have missed 2 or more classes and/or are receiving a D or lower grade within the first 5 weeks of the semester. Fall semester 2009 is the first semester this functionality will be available to students.

Early Alert information will be available from Tuesday, September 8 through Friday, September 25 for instructor entry.  Questions regarding Early Alert may be directed to:  records@bgsu.edu. Advisors and support staff will follow-up with these students who are identified in the Early Alert to offer assistance so that they achieve academic success.

Students may view Early Alert information via Student Center in MyBGSU or students may also select the Grades link under MyServices/Student Services in MyBGSU.

In Student Center, select the the Grades link.

Before grades are displayed, the appropriate term must be selected.  The list of available terms is determined by the terms in which the student is enrolled.

The Early Alert tab appears when the grade roster is created whether or not performance or attendance information has been entered for the student.  To view early alerts, the student may then click the Early Alert tab.

If no performance or attendance information has been entered for a class, the Reporting Status will be “Not Reviewed”.

When an alert has been entered, an alert icon will appear in the appropriate Attendance or Performance column, the Reporting Status will be “Reporting Complete”, and the date the information was entered will appear in the Report Date column.
