Notice regarding use of SIS to obtain data

SIS Data and Access

As the process of transitioning to using PeopleSoft (CSS) for obtaining data continues, users are reminded that the information in SIS may no longer be current. As data has been converted to CSS as the system of record the temporary interfaces to keep both systems up-to-date may no longer be running, and therefore users are again being reminded that the data in SIS may no longer be the most current information. CSS is BGSU's official source for current student information.

As of July 1, 2009, access for all primary SIS accounts will be transitioned to View Only access in order for users to reference historical data.

Any user who needs to continue to access student data is asked to please reference the BG@100 website for information about training and security access to CSS. The CSS training link is available at: www.bgsu.edu/offices/cio/page52256.html and security access request forms are available at: http://www.bgsu.edu/offices/cio/page54729.html

Currently, each of the functional areas (Student Records, Student Financials, Financial Aid, Admissions) is working to identify key individuals in the back office that will be provided with separate maintenance access to SIS. If for any reason, you feel that you will need to continue to have update access to SIS after July 1, please contact the appropriate back office.

Any questions regarding the BG@100 CSS project may be directed to BGat100@bgsu.edu.

May 2009

Throughout this past year the process of transitioning from the mainframe-based (CICS) administrative systems to the PeopleSoft (CSS) system has been implemented through monthly go-lives.

During this transition period, temporary interfaces have been created and run in order to keep critical business processes that were still running on the mainframe functioning until those business processes could be transition to PeopleSoft. At the end of the spring 2009 semester, the transition will be complete. The interfaces will no longer be run and University business processes will be exclusively maintained within the PeopleSoft systems.

As of May 15, 2009, many of these temporary interfaces will no longer be run. Screens such as ADD1, NAME, DEMO, RESI, STUD(STU1), and SRCH will contain outdated information. Users who are continuing to reference SIS for data that may not be available with their CSS security access will no longer be able to use this method to obtain data. Enrollment information for summer 2009 and beyond is exclusively in PeopleSoft. Focus reports pulling data from any of the tables associated with these screens will no longer be accurate. PeopleSoft is the University's system of record.
