Exchange offers some significant improvements and advantages over the current system and provides a number of key features that have been requested by the user community. These include:
- A more robust, full featured WebMail interface which more closely matches the appearance and capability of desktop mail/calendaring applications.
- Integrated calendaring and scheduling capabilities for all users. This solution will provide a calendaring solution for all account holders, including students.
- Enhanced support for accessing email and calendar events from mobile devices (i.e.,cell phones).
- The ability to directly review quarantined messages suspected as SPAM.
- User controlled ability to restore deleted email messages.
| What is Microsoft Exchange? |

Microsoft Exchange is a server-based messaging system which provides access to electronic mail, shared calendaring and scheduling, and other collaborative services. It is the central repository where users messages and calendar events are stored and managed, and allows users to access their messages and data using desktop clients (such as Outlook or Entourage), a web-based interface (Outlook Web Access), or via mobile devices running which support the Windows Mobile 6 platform.

Microsoft Outlook is a piece of client software that users of Microsoft Windows and Vista use to access the electronic mail and calendaring features provided by Microsoft Exchange servers. Outlook is designed specifically to work with Exchange and provides the user full access to all Exchange features, as well as helping to maintain the users personal contact lists and locally archived messages.

Microsoft Entourage is a piece of client software that users of Mac OS X use to access the electronic mail and calendaring features provided by Microsoft Exchange servers. Entourage is designed specifically to work with Exchange and provides the user access to Exchange features, as well as helping to maintain the users personal contact lists and locally archived messages.

| What is Outlook Web Access (OWA)? |

Outlook Web Access (OWA) is a web-based client used to access the electronic mail and calendaring features provided by Microsoft Exchange servers. OWA offers a web interface that very closely matches the features and appearance of the Microsoft Outlook desktop client. Internet Explorer 6 or later is required to support the full range of capabilities provided by OWA, but most features can be accessed from most browsers and across platforms.
