The following messages was sent to the BGSU campus community on February 1, 2008 regarding the Microsoft Exchange project.
This message is an update on the plans to transition BGSU from the current email system and Meeting Maker calendaring solution
to a new Microsot Exchange based email system with integrated calendaring solution during the first half of 2008.
Dear BGSU faculty, staff, and students;
Progress is being made for the move to Microsoft Exchange. Pilot groups will begin to be moved to Microsoft Exchange in February
and the project team is now working to migrate all BGNet and Meeting Maker accounts prior to June 30, 2008.
Information regarding the Microsoft Exchange project continues to be available and updated at: www.bgsu.edu/exchange. Microsoft also provides a demonstration of the Outlook Web Access (OWA) features at: http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/code/OWA/index.html. Outlook Web Access (OWA) will replace the existing webmail interface.
For account holders who wish to have their data moved to the new system, the migration process will begin with the notification
of users. At a minimum, users will be provided with a two-week notice of their migration date, with another reminder being
emailed two days prior to the migration. Notice will be sent via email to each user's BGNet email account. As pilot groups
complete the migration, additional areas will be scheduled and notified of their migration time.
BGNet account holders who want to transition to Microsoft Exchange without moving existing data will be given the opportunity
to volunteer to move to the new system. These users will be able to register their request to transition to Microsoft Exchange
without moving data and then will be entered into an automated process to migrate. The campus community will be alerted well
in advance of the time when this opportunity becomes available.
Training sessions will be offered via Continuing and Extended Education. Further detailed information regarding the training
session registration process and session times will be distributed in the near future.
Any questions you may have regarding the Microsoft Exchange project may be submitted to the project team via the Rumor Mill
form available on the project web page: www.bgsu.edu/exchange.
Sincerely, The Office of the CIO
