Outages Scheduled

In order to complete software upgrades, the following outages have been scheduled:

  • My.bgsu.edu and eLearning.bgsu.edu will experience an outage on Thurs, Dec 27 at 10 pm through Fri, Dec 28 at 6 am. During this time access to the MyBGSU portal, MyServices, and Blackboard will be unavailable.
  • The Bowen-Thompson Student Union Virtual Calendar available at ems.bgsu.edu and the BGSU Master calendar available at calendar.bgsu.edu will be unavailable on Fri, Dec 28 from 5 - 7 am.

Test Scanning Hours for Finals Week

During finals week, December 10 - 14, ITS test scanning hours will be from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Participants should bring their National Computer System answer sheets to 301 Hayes Hall for scanning.

Internet Outage

Internet connections from campus buildings may be unavailable or short periods of time between 5 and 7 a.m. on Sunday, December 16. During this period of time there will be intermittent network outages affecting connectivity both on and off campus. Audix VoiceMail Outage

Audix voice mail systems will be unavailable from 5 - 7 a.m. on Sunday, December 16 in order to complete a software upgrade. All messages and/or greetings currently on phones will remain unchanged. During this time, however, callers will be unable to leave voice mail messages and users will be unable to check their voicemail. Network Outage

In order to complete hardware upgrades, the following network outages have been scheduled:

  • Mon. Dec. 17 beginning at 6 p.m. Commons, Health Center, Williams, East, Hanna, Johnston, and Facilities will have a network outage. During the outage, systems in these buildings will have no communication to other systems either on or off campus.
  • Wed. Dec. 19 beginning at 6 p.m. University, Eppler, College Park, Family & Consumer Sciences, and Ice Arena will have a network outage. During the outage, systems in these buildings will have no communication to other systems either on or off campus.

Dell Technology Day

A Dell Technology Day at BGSU has been scheduled for Wed. Dec. 12. This event provides updates on various Dell technologies and interested individuals are invited to attend any or all of the scheduled sessions. Please see the Dell Technology Day flyer for further details. This event is open to all associated with BGSU as well as any interested community members. All participants are asked to register as directed at the bottom of the flyer linked above. Please note the RSVP deadline is Friday, December 7.

Jerome 122 and Jerome 125 available as instructional labs

As of Monday, October 29, facilities in 122 and 125 Jerome Library will be available as instructional computer labs. The Jerome 122 lab provides 40+1 instructor Dell workstations and the Jerome 125 facility provides 23+1 instructor Macintosh machines for instructional use. IMS Office Relocation

The Instructional Media Services (IMS) offices presently located on the 1st floor of the Education Building will be relocating to 103 Olscamp Hall effective October 8 at 8 a.m. IMS services for graphics, digital photography, billing and the reception area will be relocating, however phone numbers will remain the same. Listserv

Beginning August 15, requests to create a listproc account will be processed with the creation of a listserv account. This move to listserv will be effective for all newly requested accounts. Previously created listproc accounts will continue to function as they have in the past. Listproc and listserv are products that provide the means to distribute email to a large group in an easy manner. Documentation on using listserv is available via the TSC self help link. Requests to create a new listserv account or to move a current listproc account to listserv may be completed by contacting the Technology Support Center (TSC) at 2-0999, tsc@bgsu.edu.

Tech Trends Presentation

The next presentation in the Tech Trends series is scheduled for Wednesday, November 28 at 2:30 p.m. in 206 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. In this presentation entitled Copyright Issues in the Digital Age, Dru Zuretti, Manager of Copyright Education at the Copyright Clearance Center will provide an overview of the more recent modernization to copyright law which incorporates copyright and digital media. Outages Scheduled for November 21

In order to complete system maintenance, several systems will be unavailable from 5-6 a.m. on Wed Nov 21. Outages include services provided by Blackboard, the ITS provided department file shares, the BGSU master calendar available at calendar.bgsu.edu, and BGNet email. The BGNet email outage will not impact mail delivery but will impact the ability of users to read delivered messages during the outage period. Information for PGP Users

A PGP server upgrade has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 20 at 5 p.m. Those using PGP desktop software can anticipate receiving a message asking if an upgrade of their desktop software may be completed. Users are instructed to allow the software upgrade to proceed in order to complete his process. FMS Outage Scheduled

The production FMS Oracle/PeopleSoft application will be unavailable from 11:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17 through Sunday, November 18 at 11:59 p.m. in order to install maintenance packs. The FMS system will be unavailable during the time of this outage - please note, this includes all day Sunday, November 18. Network Outage Scheduled

In order to complete system maintenance, the following network outages have been scheduled:
  • Sunday, November 4 from 5-6 a.m., there will be a brief network outage for the following buildings: Hayes Hall offices, East Hall, South Hall, Johnston Hall, Administration Building, Jerome Library, Shatzel Hall, McFall, University Hall, Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Centrex, Commons, West Hall, and Hanna Hall. During the time of this outage, systems in these buildings will have no communication to other system on-campus, or off-campus.
  • Sunday,November 4 from 6-7 a.m., there will be a brief network outage for the Residential Hall internet connection. During this time, no Res Hall systems will be able to communicate off campus. On campus communications will not be affected.

ITS Database server outage will affect several applications

The outage of an ITS database server will occur from 12:01 - 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 28, in order to complete upgrades. As a result, multiple applications that are dependent on database information will be unavailable including, but not limited to, Production ERP (CSS and FMS), DARS, e-Time for Students, Rhythmyx CMS, BG1 Card, Xythos, Pinnacle, Onbase, Remedy, Math Placement Test, English Placement Test, Schedule of Classes, Course Catalog Information, and Change Password. xRhythmyx CMS Outage

The Rhythmyx Web Content Management (CMS) system will be unavailable from 3 - 4 a.m. on Monday, October 22 in order to complete system maintenance. Rhythmyx CMS will not be accessible for use in creating, editing,and publishing web pages; however, BGSU web pages will remain accessible for viewing and reference. Tech Trends - Tuesday, October 23 at 3 p.m.

The next presentation in the Tech Trends series will be Tuesday, October 23 from 3 - 4 p.m. in 206 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. All faculty, staff, students, and interested community members are invited to attend. During this presentation, Sarah "Intellagirl" Robbins will speak on the topic "MUVEs and Web 2.0: Using Second Life to create Real World Learning". A short introduction of Second Life and the BGSU Second Life Virtual Campus will be presented by Bonnie Mitchell and Anthony Fontana. Check your BGNet email messages

It is recommended that BGNet email account holders who forward their email using Intelligent Inbox filters check the inbox of their BGNet webmail account for messages. During the time period of the morning of September 27 through the morning of October 8, there were intermittent issues affecting the Intelligent Inbox filters. These issues caused some messages to be delivered to the Inbox rather than being forwarded or filed into other mailboxes. This issue has now been corrected, however, it is recommended that users of the Intelligent Inbox forwarding feature check the Inbox of their BGNet webmail account to retrieve any messages that may have been incorrectly delivered during the above outlined timeframe. e-Time for Students System Outage Scheduled

The e-Time for Students system will experience an outage on Sunday, October 14 from 12:05 a.m. - 12:35 a.m. in order to complete system maintenance. During the time of this outage the web application will be unavailable for use, however card readers will remain operational. An outage of the Blackboard Transaction System will occur from 2 - 3 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17. During the time of this outage, the following services will be unavailable:
  • vending machine and copy machine card readers
  • Blackboard Transaction System cash registers and card readers
  • Blackboard Transaction System Envision software
  • Account Management Center (AMC)
  • guest and authenticated deposits from MyBGSU
  • balance and transaction history information from the BG1Card tab on MyBGSU

Users who ftp content to the www2.bgsu.edu host (campus.bgsu.edu) can expect their content to be unavailable during the time of this outage. The work being completed may require outage periods of 30-60 minutes in length and during these outage periods, connectivity both in and out of campus will be unavailable. OnBase Outage

An upgrade of the OnBase document imaging system has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 28 from 6 a.m. until noon. In order to perform this upgrade, OnBase users will need to be logged out of the OnBase system and remain logged out until the upgrade is complete. During this time the system will be unavailable to perform scanning, indexing or retrievals from within OnBase and the "View Invoice" link from within PeopleSoft will not be functional. OnBase users are asked to complete the following prior to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28:
  • Upload all scanned batches
  • Index and Commit all batches that have been scanned into the system
  • Log out of the system and remain logged out until 12 noon or until you are notified that the upgrade is completed.

MyBGSU Extended Hours

MyBGSU will be extending hours the weekend prior to the fall 2007 semester to provide additional access. Hours will be:
  • Sat, Aug. 18 - 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sun, Aug. 19 -7:30 a.m. - 11:59 p.m.
  • Mon, Aug. 20 - midnight to 9 p.m.
MyBGSU may be unavailable for up to a 45-minute period beginning at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sun, Aug.19 and on Mon, Aug. 20 in order to complete system functions. Applications for "Parking", "Change of Home Address", "My Financial Aid Status", and "Hire a Student Employee" will not be available beyond their normal schedule.

ITS Database Server Outage

An outage of an ITS database server will occur from 12:01 - 4 a.m. on Sunday, July 29 in order to complete upgrades. As a result, multiple applications that are dependent on database information will be unavailable including, but not limited to, Production ERP (CSS and FMS), Blackboard, DARS, eTime for Students, Rhythmyx CMS, BG1Card, Xythos, Pinnacle, Onbase, Remedy, Math Placement Test, English Placement Test, Schedule of Classes, Course Catalog Information, and Change Password. BG@100 Open Forum

All interested faculty, staff, and student are invited to attend the next BG@100 Open Forum scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 12 in 314 Bowen-Thompson Student Union.  The forum will provide an update on the student administration phase of the BG@100 Campus Solutions System (CSS).  Project information is available online at:  http://www.bgsu.edu/BGat100.edu.

Rhythmyx Outage Scheduled

The Rhythmyx Web Content Management (CMS) system will be unavailable from 3 - 4 a.m. Thursday, June 28 in order to complete system maintenance. Rhythmyx CMS will not be accessible for use in creating, editing, and publishing web pages; however, BGSU web pages will remain accessible for viewing and reference. BGSU Forms Script Change

As of Thursday, May 24, BGSU forms will add a security code validation procedure to the submission process. This second level validation is being incorporated in order to prevent automated form submission, therefore reducing spam received via BGSU forms.

The form script will continue to function as it has before, however users will be required to read a security code, type the code into the box provided, press confirm, and the send button prior to the data being sent to the form recipient. A more detailed description of this process as well as a sample form is provided for your reference at the following TSC Self-Help Page.

ITS Technology Support Center to begin using Altiris Help Desk

The ITS Technology Support Center (TSC) will begin using Altiris Help Desk as its system of record on Monday, May 14. The Altiris Help Desk software will be replacing the Remedy ticket system.

Those using the services provided by TSC will see few changes with this implementation. Please see:  http://www.bgsu.edu/offices/cio/page29922.html for examples of incident email messages generated by the Altiris system, as well as examples of the bar code labels that will begin to be used for identifying hardware. The bar code labels will be placed on equipment rather than red oval asset tag labels.

Blackboard Outage

Beginning Monday, January 15, the Blackboard portion of MyBGSU will experience a 5 minute outage every Monday and Thursday morning beginning at 4:00 a.m. The outage period will continue on this schedule until further notice.
