Sub Ramakrishnan convened the meeting at 9:00 a.m.
Minutes from the August 26 meeting were reviewed and approved.
Sub updated the committee on the plans for Internet2 presentations at the upcoming Tech Fair on October 23. Internet2 will
be hosting a table and a breakout session at the Tech Fair. Tom Kornacki volunteered to fill a slot or two at the table. Andy
Layden indicated he would be available to assist with a test run of the equipment setup.
Andy expressed the need for having a centralized virtual conference facility for faculty and possibly student use. The committee
very much liked the idea of a fully configured and permanent facility with all the equipment for a virtual conference in place.
It should be open for reservation by faculty groups and occasionally for limited class use. Some members felt it would be
good to have the facility in a location other than the Union. Mike said that a room that can handle 20-25 people may not be
that complicated and not too expensive. Are there any BGSU units who have one or more equipment setups for a virtual conference?
- Mike will try to gather this information. Andy will try to gather information from a colleague at another school who has
a similar facility.
Mike Smith and Chris Toth from ITS will be attending the Fall I2 conference in Indianapolis. Mike will be watching for network
monitoring and related tools at the conference.
