MyCourses (Blackboard) Outage and Upgrade - Dec 29
MyCourses (Blackboard) will be unavailable on Friday, December 29 from 12:01 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. in order to facilitate an upgrade to Blackboard version 7.1. A web page has been created to provide details regarding the upgrade. Any questions regarding this upgrade and/or outage may be directed to the Technology Support Center (TSC) at tsc@bgsu.edu, 2-0999.

Network Outage Scheduled for Dec. 17
In order to complete upgrades, the entire campus network will be unavailable on Sunday, December 17 from 2-6 a.m. As work is completed, various services and Internet access will be restored during the outage period, however all access will be intermittent until the end of the outage period. Test Scanning Hours for Finals Week
During finals week, December 11-15, ITS test scanning hours will be from 8am - 6pm Monday through Friday. Participants should bring their National Computer System answer sheets to 301 Hayes Hall for scanning.
PeopleSoft CSS Application Outage
On Sunday, December 10 from 12:01 - 6:00 a.m. the production CSS PeopleSoft application will be unavailable in order to complete maintenance. During the outage, access to CSS self-service applications such as "View My Paycheck", "My Compensation History", and "Manager Information", as well as CSS applications used in the "back office" will be unavailable. BG@100 open forums are held monthly to provide an update to all interested faculty, staff, and students regarding progress on the PeopleSoft implementation. The next BG@100 open forum will be held on Thursday, December 7 at 1:30 p.m. in 316 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. In addition to project information, project team members are available to answer questions regarding BG@100. All interested faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend.

"Bursarable" Process Moratorium in Preparation for FMS
In preparation for the implementation of the PeopleSoft Financial Management Solution (FMS) on February 5, 2007, the process used by departments and organizations for entering and loading "bursarable" transactions through the customized template administered by the Bursar's Office will be changing. Due to these changes, no new accounts to the "utility" server will be granted and no activity through the current process will be accepted after Friday, December 1, 2006. The Bursar's Office will be training employees in departments and organizations on the new process throughout December and January. Once trained, employees will be, again, granted access to use the new process beginning February 5, 2007. Please contact Sylvia Cuthbert at 2-8164 if you have any questions. Sylvia will be publishing a training schedule.

Apple Battery Exchange Program
Apple has determined that certain lithium-ion batteries pose a safety risk that may result in overheating. Affected batteries were sold for use in the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4, 15-inch PowerBook G4, and 15-inch MacBook Pro. Personally owned machines should be checked by students, faculty, and staff to see if they are a part of the recall program. Information regarding procedures to exchange batteries in University owned machines will be distributed in the near future. Apple is recalling the affected batteries and has initiated an exchange program to provide a new replacement battery. To determine if your battery is a part of this recall, please follow this link for iBook and PowerBook or this link for 15-inch MacBook Pro machines. Simply follow the instructions for checking your battery to see if it is a part of the recall program and then the steps to follow if it is identified as a part of the program. Dell has identified a potential issue associated with certain batteries sold with Dell Latitude, Inspiron, XPS, and Dell Precision Mobile Workstation notebook computers. Dell is recalling certain Dell-branded batteries and offering replacements for these batteries. University-owned systems are being identified and when a shipment of batteries arrive, will be replaced by ITS staff. Personally owned machines should be checked by students, faculty, and staff to see if they are a part of the recall program. Additional Wireless Locations Available
Wireless network access is now available for the entire Eppler Complex and Hannah Hall. Additionally, the first and second floors of West Hall now provide wireless network access. Beginning Monday, August 21, the Technology Support Center (TSC) will offer additional open hours. TSC will be open from 7:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. eTime for Students System and ePorfolio Outage
The eTime for Students system will experience an outage on Sunday, November 26 from 1 a.m. - 2 a.m. in order to complete system maintenance. During the time of this outage the web application will be unavailable for use, however card readers will remain operational. Additionally, the ePortfolio system will be unavailable during this same time period. The 2006 BGSU Northwest Ohio Technology Fair will take place on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Lenhart Grand Ballroom. The Tech Fair is an opportunity for BGSU campus technology providers, along with national, regional and local businesses to showcase their services and innovations. This event includes a vendor area showcasing over 55 vendors, drawings throughout the day for technology-related products, a high school web contest, and product demonstration sessions. The next BG@100 Open Forum is scheduled for Thursday, November 9 at 1:30 p.m. in 316 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. SNAP Survey Software to be briefly unavailable
In order to complete system maintenance, the survey.bgsu.edu website used by the SNAP survey software will be unavailable on Wednesday, November 1 from 6 - 6:30 a.m. Any questions regarding this outage may be directed to the Technology Support Center (TSC) at 2-0999, tsc@bgsu.edu.
On Sunday, October 29 from 2-4 a.m. (after Daylight Savings Time in effect) an ITS database server will experience an outage in order to complete upgrades. This outage will cause the unavailability of multiple applications that are dependent on database information. Applications include but are not limited to: ERP Production (CSS), DARS, e-Time for Students, Rhythmyx CMS, Campus One Card, Xythos, Pinnacle, Onbase, Remedy, Math Placement Test, English Placement Test, Schedule of Classes, Course Catalog Information, and Change Password. ITS Mainframe Outage Scheduled
On Sunday, October 15 from 4 a.m. - 6 a.m. the ITS mainframe for administrative systems will be unavailable in order to complete a system software upgrade. This outage will cause the unavailability of multiple applications. Applications include but are not limited to MyBGSU, Digital Video, DARS, ePortfolio, Math and English Placement Tests, PageCenter, NS2, CICS, and TSO. Testing and data verification by ITS personnel will occur from 6 a.m. - 8 a.m. User offices will complete testing and data verification during the 8 a.m. until noon timeframe. Any further system adjustments would occur near the noon Sunday timeframe and there is a slight possibility that it would require an outage, however this is not anticipated. In order to complete system maintenance, there may be brief interruptions of e-mail services between the time period of 12:01 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Monday, October 9 and Tuesday, October 10. These interruptions will not impact mail delivery but may cause momentary interruption in the ability to read delivered messages. Internet Connection to be Unavailable

Tech Trends - Best Practices in the use of DVSS
The Tech Trends series will present a panel discussion entitled: Best Practices in the Use of Digital Video Streaming Service in Classrooms and Training on Thursday, September 21 at 2:30 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. in 113 Olscamp Hall. The latest developments in the DVSS services offered by WBGU will be demonstrated. Tony Short of WBGU will report on recent advancements and Cheryl Joyce of WBGU will provide a demonstration. A panel of expert users representing various disciplines will share their experiences in using DVSS in their classes and offer tips to faculty, staff, and students to use DVSS effectively. Panelists include: Melissa Spirek, Journalism; Betsy Bunner, Health and Human Services; Rachel Vanatta, Education; Margaret Weinberger, Sociology; and Bonnie Fink, CTLT will serve as Discussion Leader. The Tech Trends series is sponsored by the Information Technology Committee, the Office of the Executive Vice President and the Office of the Chief Information Officer. All interested faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend.
Rhythmyx CMS to be briefly unavailable
The Rhythmyx Web Content Management (CMS) system will be unavailable on Wednesday, September 20 from 3 a.m. - 4 a.m. in order to complete system maintenance. Rhythmyx CMS will not be accessible for use in creating, editing, and publishing web pages during the time of the outage however, BGSU web pages will remain accessible for viewing and reference. Outages Scheduled For September 1
The following systems will experience outages on Friday, September 1 in order to complete maintenance.
- BGNet e-mail - Between midnight and 3:00 a.m. there may be brief (5-10 minute) interruptions in the ability to access WebMail or to view messages stored in BGNet mailboxes. Most BGNet services, in particular the receiving of new incoming messages should not be interrupted, and general use of the e-mail system will be possible throughout the maintenance period.
- ListServe - ListServe will be unavailable from 4:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.
- Wireless Network - The wireless network, including Firelands campus, will be unavailable from midnight until 2:00 a.m.
- Rhythmyx Web Content Management System (CMS) - Rhythmyx CMS will be unavailable from 4:00 a.m. - 5:00 a.m. BGSU Web pages will remain accessible for viewing and reference during this time, however CMS will be unavailable for use in creating, editing, and publishing Web pages.

Beginning, Sunday, June 4, the Blackboard portion of MyBGSU will experience a 15 minute outage every Sunday morning at 4:00 a.m. This weekly outage will continue on this schedule until further notice. Technology Support Center (TSC) hours
The Technology Support Center will offer additional hours the weekend prior to the start of fall classes. TSC will be open from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 21. Beginning Monday, August 21, the Technology Support Center (TSC) will offer additional open hours. TSC will be open from 7:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. In order to assist in the preparation for the Fall 2006 semester, MyBGSU will be available additional hours the weekend prior to the start of classes. Faculty and students are urged to access MyBGSU for class rosters and class schedules prior to the first day of classes. Student schedules will be sent to BGNet email addresses on Thursday, August 17.

Technology Equipped Classroom Training
Instructional Media Services (IMS) will offer two sessions for those interested in learning more about the operation of equipment in technology-related classrooms.

A technology-equipped classroom contains, at a minimum, a permanently installed video projector and VCR. Those attending the sessions are provided with information on use of equipment and streaming video on campus. No registration is required. New BGSU Events Calendar to be available Monday, August 7
On Monday, August 7 at 8:00 a.m., the current Events Calendar will be upgraded to a new BGSU Events Calendar. Moving to this new calendar will provide the opportunity for users to see all events on one calendar and also provides the opportunity for diversity on how events are presented. Users will be able to search events by date, location or type and view them by day, week, month or year in either a list or calendar grid. Prior to the calendar being available on August 7, on-campus users may preview the calendar by visiting calendartest.bgsu.edu. Any currently listed events on calendartest.bgsu.edu and the current Events calendar will be moved to the new production Events Calendar. 2nd Annual Office of the CIO Golf Outing

On Thursday, July 13, between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., Pagecenter will be unavailable in order to upgrade LRS Pagecenter, VPS and related products. The look and feel of the screens has changed but will continue to work the same. Windows users will need to update their browser AFP & print plug-ins per instructions available by following the "Pagecenter update" link from the login page. Print plug-ins do not apply to Macintosh users. Windows users will need to update the plug-ins before Pagecenter reports can be printed. Rhythmyx Web Content Management System (CMS) Outage Scheduled
An outage of the Rhythmyx Web Content Management System (CMS) will occur from 2-5 a.m. Saturday, June 24, in order to complete system maintenance. While BGSU Web pages will remain accessible for viewing and reference, CMS will be unavailable for use in creating, editing and published Web pages. EMS and Virtual Calendar Server Outage Scheduled
The EMS (Event Management System) software and Bowen-Thompson Student Union Virtual Calendar (http://ems.bgsu.edu) will be unavailable from 6-10am Tuesday, June 27 in order to complete server upgrades. The Virtual Calendar lists scheduled events in the Union, Olscamp Conference Center, Prout Chapel, and outdoor and banner spaces.
The BG@100 project team would like to invite BG faculty, staff, and students to attend a project office open house on Wednesday, June 21. This first ever BG@100 open house will introduce the campus to the project team and facility. The office is located at 414 E. Wooster Street, just west of the railroad tracks. There is limited parking in front of the building and a small parking lot in the rear of the building, but it is just a short walk from the main campus. Refreshments will be available and short tours of the office and presentations will be held at 9 and 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. Please stop by any time on June 21 - hope to see you then.
Customize MyBGSU to fit your needs
Would you like to modify how the MyBGSU portal screen appears for you when you login? Each user has the option of customizing the layout to meet their individual preferences. By following the Customize Page link at the top of the MyBGSU Welcome page, each user has the ability to Show, Hide, Add, Delete, or Move available portlets. Selecting the Help link at the top of the MyBGSU Welcome page provides instructions.
Users also have the option of individualizing the configuration of the available Blackboard modules by selecting the Layout button near the top right of MyCourses. Follow the instructions provided to modify the layout to meet your personal preferences.
The Technology Support Center (TSC) at 2-0999, tsc@bgsu.edu is available to assist users in using these tools to configure MyBGSU to best fit their preferences.
TECS Applications Being Accepted
The TECS program is looking for faculty who would like assistance in order to incorporate technology into their classroom and course material. If you are a faculty member who could benefit from a student assisting in this type of technology development, the TECS program can help. Each semester a TECS student is paired with a faculty member to complete a project enabling the use of technology in instruction. Rhythmyx Web Content Management System (CMS) Upgrade
The Rhythmyx Web Content Management System will be upgraded to version 5.6 as of June 12. In order to complete this upgrade, there are a few key points for users to be aware of:
June 9 - 11: Rhythmyx CMS will be unavailable for use in creating, editing, and publishing web pages. BGSU web pages will remain accessible for viewing and reference during this time. This outage will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 9 and will continue through 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12.
June 12: Rhythmyx CMS version 5.6 will be available for use beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Documentation for Rhythmyx CMS version 5.6 is available on the TSC Self-Help website.

BG@100 Open Forum to include Navigating FMS presentation
The next BG@100 Open Forum will be held on Thursday, June 8 at 1:30 p.m. in 316 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. This open forum will feature a presentation entitled "Navigating FMS".
Navigating FMS is the third presentation in the FMS Introductory Training Series. Due to system maintenance, some of the applications available via MyBGSU will be unavailable from 1:00 a.m. - 5:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22.
The applications include: My Grades, My Room & Meals, Student Insurance Requirement, My Degree Audit, My Enrollment Verification, Student Progress Reporting, My Advisees, ePortfolio, Forward My On-Campus Postal Mail, International Student Taxes, Video Search, Change Password, and Add Server Account.

In order to facilitate an upgrade to Blackboard version 7, Blackboard will be unavailable from Friday, May 12 at 6 a.m. througn noon on Saturday, May 13. During the time of this outage, hardware will be replaced and software will be upgraded.
A web page has been created to provide details regarding the upgrade. While the Blackboard interface will appear very much the same, additional software features will be available as a result of this upgrade. Faculty teaching the first summer session are encouraged to complete course materials prior to the upgrade - work completed prior to the time of the upgrade will be transferred to the new version.

ASAC Software Request Applications Available
The Academic Software Advisory Committee (ASAC) has established the application process for this year's submission, prioritzation, and review of requests for instructional software and databases. Rhythmyx Test Server Outage and Upgrade
The test system used for the Rhythmyx Content Management System (CMS) for the web will be unavailable from March 20th at 8:00 a.m. until March 27th at 5:00 p.m. During this outage period, the Rhythmyx application will be upgraded to a newer release.

BG@100 Open Forum - January 11, 2006
A BG@100 Open Forum will be offered on Wednesday, January 11 at 1:30 p.m. in 316 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. This open forum is an opportunity for all faculty, staff, and students to learn about the progress taking place on the BG@100 project as it proceeds through the FMS (Financial Management Solution) phase. A short presentation will be followed by the opportunity for a question and answer period. All are invited to attend.
MyCourses (Blackboard) is extending hours the weekend prior to the spring 2006 semester to provide additional access to faculty class rosters and student class schedules. Hours will be:

Audio-visual equipment requests for spring
Instructors who will be placing requests for audio-visual equipment for their classrooms through Instructional Media Services (IMS) are asked to submit their requests prior to the first day of classes. These requests may be made by either calling IMS at 2-6993 or emailing ims-req@bgsu.edu
Classroom technology equipment training
Instructional Media Services (IMS) will offer two sessions for those interested in learning more about the operation of equipment in technology-related classrooms.
These sessions will be offered in 225 Olscamp on
Wed. Jan. 4 at 2:30-3:30 pm andA technology-equipped classroom contains, at a minimum, a permanently installed video projector and VCR. Those attending the sessions are provided with information on use of equipment and streaming video on campus. No registration is required. Monthly Content Management (CMS) Training for the Web sessions to be offered
The Office of Web Development will be offering monthly training sessions on CMS for the web for areas that will be creating or maintaining their web pages using the Rhythmyx CMS system. eTime for Students and ePortfolio Outage - January 5

BGNet email Outage - January 5
The BGNet email system will experience an outage from 12:01 am - 5:00 am on Thursday, January 5 in order to complete system maintenance. During the outage period all BGNet email services will be unavailable, including all checking, sending or receiving of mail and access to WebMail. All inbound messages will be queued for delivery following completion of the upgrades. Please direct any questions regarding this outage to the Technology Support Center at 2-0999, tsc@bgsu.edu.
MyBGSU will experience an outage from 6-6:30 am on Tuesday, January 3 in order to complete system maintenance. During the time of this outage, services delivered via MyBGSU will be unavailable.
