Your Proactive Approach is Needed for Security
by Bruce Petryshak, CIO
We have made a great deal of progress with regard to expanding our technology capabilities, and as our use of technology grows,
so does our concern regarding security issues. The need to focus attention on issues of security and privacy will continue to grow over the next several years. This is highlighted as our attention not only turns to new classes, students and faculty this fall, but also the newest version
of the Sobig.F worm and the MSBlaster virus.
BGSU does provide central safeguards that include: firewalls, central virus protection, SPAM filtering software and continued improvements to large incidence response processes. Yet, we need your continued assistance in approaching security in a proactive manner.
Please note:
Many viruses spread as the result of opening email.
Question unexpected email attachments, even from someone you do know.
Keep your anti-virus software current and use the automatic update feature.
No one is immune. A major Macintosh or multi-platform virus could be on the horizon.
A few extra steps of prevention will make this a successful year.
