Update - April 2006
PeopleSoft Financial Management Solutions (FMS) Update
Chart of Accounts
BG@100 project team members presented the FMS Chart of Accounts design on March 22, 2006 to representatives from the Treasurer's
Office, Office of the Bursar, Business Office, Sponsored Programs and Research, Purchasing Department, and Continuing and
Extended Education. The Project Office will present the Chart of Accounts design again at the BG@100 Open Forum on April
10th and at the BG@100 Power Users meeting on April 12. The Chart of Accounts design document is published under the BG@100
Project Related Documents link above.
Process Modeling
The BG@100 project team, with assistance from the Business Office and Purchasing Department, will be performing Process Modeling
during the months of April and May. The primary purpose of this modeling is to construct the process flows that will be used
within FMS to conduct University financial business. For example, the process of issuing purchase orders will be modeled.
In this modeling, the team will perform the tasks required to take an acquisition from FMS requisition through the production
of an FMS purchase order. At the conclusion of Process Modeling, the team will have established the standard methods for
doing business in FMS and will have identified the changes in business processes for the University. These changes in business
processes will be presented to the University community through various implementation review meetings and in FMS training
classes.
Data Conversion
The BG@100 project team with assistance from the Business Office continues to work on the conversion of information from AFIN
to FMS. Conversion efforts include data mapping, data cleansing, developing information standards, developing automated conversion
programs and establishing a data conversion plan for FMS go-live.
Interfaces
The BG@100 project team continues to work on the financial interfaces that must be maintained in the FMS system. Over 70
interfaces are being analyzed to determine modifications that will be required so that they will function with FMS.
Potential Local Customizations
The BG@100 project team is evaluating and analyzing a variety of potential customizations to the FMS system to accommodate
the gaps identified in the Fit/Gap sessions. As the project team adheres to the project objective to minimize customizations,
each proposed customization will be carefully scrutinized. When possible, modifications will be made to the business processes
to eliminate the need for customizations.
BG@100 Project Office Update
The BG@100 project office welcomes three new Applications Developers to the Project Team. Merritt Obreider, Linda Larkin
and Jie Su joined the staff in the month of March.
Merritt will be assisting with the HCM 8.9 upgrade while Linda and Jie assist with the FMS implementation.
The BG@100 project office will be welcoming Tom Kornacki to the project team on April 17, 2006. Tom joins the team to lead
the design and configuration of Grants Accounting within the FMS application.
